That's a great phrase.

The problem is certainly multifaceted. The city and state prosecutors also have a terrible record regarding chain of custody of evidence as well as presenting cases in a way that lead to conviction. Judges sympathetic to criminals is certainly another facet of the problem.

Yes, because when you're a 40 year old ineffective "leader" any and all criticism about one's job performance must stem from racism. Please stop and focus on the actual topic at hand.

I'd prefer that cities in this country not look like Calcutta.

Maybe criminals should have to work off their sentences by getting paid for cleaning up a certain square yardage of area. After they've served their time they can use the money to start a better life.

Better than having them sit around the jail.

Mayor Scott said they just got trash trucks a few months ago. WTF. He was proud of that.

The other 2 guys seem better choices but they won't win.

I think Bob Wallace is great, but you are right, he won't win.

While there are sections of blight like in any city, much of Baltimore does not "look like Calcutta." I've been back to my old stomping grounds in the last month, and they are growing, and even nicer than when I lived there (and they weren't bad then...)

You have that backwards. Only a couple areas are "dangerous" and that's even comparing it to other major cities. But what do I know? I've only been living in and around the city for a couple decades.

I believe working off sentences is being experimented with by SA Bates and his Citation Docket. The Mayor was against it at first but they seem to have come to terms thus the BPD can begin to write tickets or have summons issued. I believe a fine or community service is part of the "deal" as opposed to going to jail for minor offenses. Lets see if it works.

Houston was just rated the dirtiest city. Baltimore is not even in the top 20.
