Since you haven't been there...I suggest starting a segregation map for the various areas. (details and tips on restaurants included are always helpful)

Edgewood is becoming known for gangs. Not sure if that's everywhere in Edgewood or just pockets. Others are mostly nice blue collar towns. Middle River can be pricier if you're close to the water.

I think there was some sort of shoot out/home invasion in Dundalk last night. I am not familiar with it but it always seemed kind of a quiet blue collar kind of area.

Lol

I live near Dundalk and Sparrows Point. It is pretty quiet and relatively safe. There are definitely part of each place has pocket of bad area for instance

Dundalk has Turner Station
Essex part of Maryln area
Middle River ....trailer parks
Sparrow Points flooding

Other than that it's an old blue collar place that slowly changing and still affordable. I am not blue collar btw if you want to label lol

p/s those area are in Baltimore County not city

I live in the Fox Ridge section of Essex, feel safe and its peaceful in my block, but just two blocks down the street is what was known as East Roc,shoot out at the okay corral. So its good and bad.

Default bad rap

Uunfornately the areas have been given a bad rap thru the years. Slum landlords dominated the region with Riverdale apts. the Village of Tall Trees and shacks. They rented to druggees, dealers, excons, molesters and low life ruining communities. The revitalization process is very slow. But, the region has many waterway parks, churches, good schools, restaurants, marinas and now lots of expensive waterfront homes. I guess Baltimore magazine ignores the positive points since when it list surburban communties its starts with Rosedale. North Point is sight of major sight of significant historical event. One of this days a bike trail to ensue.
