Bud's used to have an item on his menu that was "three soft-shelled crabs, lightly breaded and sauteed to perfection. It was the ultimate in truth in advertising.

Used to be a fan of Costas and Bill's Terrace but now my all time favorite for eat in crabs is Crab Quarters, Eastern Blvd in Essex. The biggest and the best, nice dining area, GREAT service.

God Bless the east coast. Lol. Seriously, its like people from the rest of the country toss around the words crab shack, and dont know what it really means. Poor guys.

If you think "Joes crab shack" is a crab shack, you've been had. First time I wnet there and saw an actual MENU I was like WTF is this crap?

You're not supposed to get a menu with entrees. Pssh. You're supposed to get a mallet, a butterknife, and a wood table covered in paper, where you drink beers while some dude keeps making rounds and dumping baskets of crab out.

You know you are at a real crab shack when you don't leave because you're full, you leave because you're kind of drunk and your hands are sore.

Side note: UTZ crab chips FTW!

Real Baltimoreans know that the very BEST crabs are the ones that have come straight out of Chesapeake Bay within the past 24 hours. They have a saltiness and complex, slightly earthy flavor with very rich mustard that coastal and gulf crabs just don't possess. Most crab houses in the area now get most of their crabs from Texas and the Carolinas, as local demand exceeds supply. There are still a few that serve Bay crabs, but I'm not telling you where, as September and October are when local crabs are at their heaviest, and we don't need the competition for our state crustacean!

If you don't go to Snyder's (not a crab shack, see your other thread), check out Seaside (Crain Hwy., Glen Burnie) or Gunning's (off Rt. 100 at B-W Parkway Md. 295).

Both are fairly close to BWI.
