For those of you who have been into DC for this event in the past.. are there any ideas on what is the best way to get to Capitol Hill? The only thing I can think of, if you can not get a hotel, is to take the train into Union Station.. but I am not sure on the security that will be there and I want to avoid METRO if at all possible. Amtrak or MARC seem the best options.. or should I just stay home and watch it on TV.. Any ideas

I went a few years ago. It is very difficult to get close for the ceremony unless you get there extremely early or know a hook. I took the MARC train down and back--that part of it wasn't an issue. You can walk from Union Station over to it. If you have never done it, go. But, once you have had the experience, watch it on tv.

I am on the list for inauguration tickets...hopefully I will get lucky! I plan to take the MARC to Union Station and walk it.

For those interested, go to your senator or representative's website to request tickets.

I emailed all of my Reps and Senators BEFORE Obama was elected. They responded (some better than others) and I should know hopefully in early January.
