Hey All,

Quick question...We registered our car when we moved here about 6 months ago and received the little stickers to put on our license plate. But we never received an actual registration. Do you guys have a physical registration paper? I assume we should have gotten one. In Colorado its a small piece of paper which you sign and keep in the glove box or in your purse or whatever. I'm wondering if when they sent the stickers they just forgot the piece of paper that was supposed to go with it.

Thanks for your help, I know this is a stupid question but I really, really, really, don;t want to go back to that MVA office, its pretty awful.

Yes, you should have gotten a registration card.

On the MVA website you can order a duplicate/additional registration card (https://secure.marylandmva.com/emvas...asp?sku=dupreg)

But in your case, since you never received one to begin with, I would suggest calling them first and talking to someone. Best case scenario, they will just send one out to you.

Good Luck.

The piece of paper the stickers were attached to should also have the registration. If you no longer have that, you'll need a duplicate from the MVA.

I'm afraid that you may have thought the registration was a packing slip. An easy mistake to make because it looks like packing slip. It is attached to the stickers. That's the registration.

I am moving to Baltimore in a couple of weeks. I just bought a new car but I heard that when I register it in Maryland, in order to park on the Baltimore streets over night, if I live in the city, I have to pay the difference in the sales tax on the car between where I am now (Missouri) and Baltimore...is this true?

I think you're talking about two separate but possibly related issues. In many city neighborhoods you need to have a parking permit to park for more than a couple of hours, which requires a MD vehicle registration to obtain. In order to get a MD vehicle registration, there is an excise tax on the sales tax difference for recently-purchased vehicles. You're supposed to register your car within 60 days, but if you need a permit to park you might want to do it sooner unless you know someone who can give you a visitor pass to use temporarily.

Yeah you have to pay the difference is sales tax to register your car in MD (if you bought it within the last 7 years I think) which you'll need to do in order to get a parking permit. Your insurance will most likely be noticeably higher too for the honor of living in Baltimore. It sucks... sorry, welcome to Maryland!
