Hello. My husband and I, currently living in Federal Hill, are looking to buy on the eastern side of the city. We've found a lot of houses we like, but one in particular was in Brewers Hill. We haven't spent any time yet in Brewers Hill and would like opinions of the neighborhood concerning safety, things to do, and parking. We are both young 20s and enjoy Fells Point and Canton a lot. Are those areas walkable from Brewers Hill?

Thanks!

Brewers Hill blends in with Canton. There really isn't much difference between the two. Fells and Canton are both easily walkable from Brewers. The safety factor may be a bit better in Brewers and Canton.

Just trying to learn myself.

What makes Brewers & Canton more safe?

Is it because Fells has more nightlife, i.e. people coming in from elsewhere to go bar-hopping, etc.? Just guessing, and trying to get a feel for these neighborhoods of Baltimore...

Being in Federal Hill, why not just drive over to Canton? Brewer's Hill is a new development on the East side of Canton with new shops and housing. It has taken over the area where the former Natty Boh brewery facility is.

As far as walking to Fell's Point, it's a bit of a hike (about 2 miles). Certainly doable but probably better by bike.

I am a realtor with Long and Foster in Fell's Point and living in Canton. If you have any specific questions feel free to email me. davidjacques@lnf.com

Brewers Hill basically straddles Highlandtown and Canton. Two very different communities with not a whole lot of interaction between them. Brewers Hill was an industrial (breweries) area and still has that feel to it to me. I'd look in Canton, west of the square.

What? Brewer's Hill is not "New". The houses are pretty much identical to Canton in size and age. The walk to the Bars in Canton and Fells is a bit further, obviously. On-street parking might be a bit easier. Some BH residents drive to Fells or Canton to the bars, and then walk or taxi home, and retrieve their car in the morning via bike or jogging.I've lived in both Brewer's Hill and Canton, and my perception was that Brewer's Hill was a bit less "safe". I don't have any data to back that up, that was just my perception at the time. I think the streets are more desolate in the evenings, less people out walking about = perception of less safety? The only people I saw out and about were packs of juveniles horsing around. They never gave me any trouble though.I think Fells is less safe because some of the bars are a bit thuggish, and there are more shootings. It is also closer to the projects. It also floods during major storms. I would stay at least a couple blocks from the water, one for the flooding, and two because the harbor stinks in the summer time when there's a fishkill and thousands of rotting fish float in the harbor.
