for the weekend and so far I really like this city. I did not know much about it and I get the sense that it is a very underrated city due to its proximity to DC. Anyways, the only things I did not like about it so far is stuff like loud music, some rudeness and the feeling that crime is present and can happen, did not feel too safe about walking downtown at night, and people talking loud is also a turn off. Anyways, for non African American people, what is life like in Baltimore?

A blast if you're college educated, employed and live in a yuppie neighborhood.

Well, I am leaving the city today and I have to say that I liked it a lot. Now, I have to say that I was very displeased with some of the stuff I saw today, I was walking by the Lexington Market area today and that area was a mess! Some dude just yelling some non-sense for hours, people just loitering and even some of those street vendors, cash checking places, dollar stores make that area look so "ghetto". Also, I was shocked by how many people I saw just walking around aimlessly on a Monday morning (what about working?), I am on vacation but I am assuming all those people must be/or look to be unemployed? Anyways, I took a second walk by the Inner Harbor and I really loved that area. I took the light rail by that neighborhood called Westport and I could not believe how bad that area is, truly a slum! Anyways, Baltimore has a lot of potential and could be an awesome city, if they were to clean it up, it is just the ghetto culture and the uncivilized, ignorant people that seem to screw everything up!

WOW. what does this mean?? African Americans can also have your same views on some of this!!! this city has a long way to go and has since I was born 35 years ago..thankfully my mom left when I was five to move to RED NECK Charlotte NC..to live a so called better lifestyle..and from my experience we were in the other side of Ghetto we were on the prejudice Republican part that felt that my mother with 2 master's degrees and my father with a master's making well over six figures did not fit..so it is all the same to me..yeah they need to change their lifestyles and strive for me but what tools is the city offering and now with me being so young a CEO of my own company and making over 6 figures I pity the system and the ones that dare not to dreamb..but it is everywhere it is just camouflaged in different forms and I pray for the people bc being real Baltimore has a lot of potential but there are so many people that are judgmental and they don't understand it is deeper than a job for these people it has been this way for years and they need to be shown other ways..the city doesn't care nor do they give them the resources to break cycles until it is too late or they are imprisoned and that is why I have chosen to relocate my family here just to make a change..the south is just as worse especially when you are BLACK with MONEY..i have seen both sides it is just that the wealthy do it a little more discreet as they smile in your face...this is sooooooo sad ..WALL STREET CRASHING should have shown us money ain't everything and maybe these people just need one person to smile and not judge them...i pray that more high dollar people hit the bottom so that they can realize they are merely a person NOT GOD....I don't like the scenery either to be honest and I feel a change should come but i dare not judge bc you have not walked a mile in their shoes..the system sets them up for failure...TRUST ME, all of my family is still there my mom just chose to jump out there and try a new place...

You need to educate yourself first on the ways of the world and all of its people before you decide to leave Minnesota again and post stuff like this.

BTW, I'm African-American.

Your question is very bizarre. I am Caucasion and I don't think it makes much difference what life is like for any nationalities. In Baltimore, there are poor people; many of whom happen to be African-American but there are also poor people of other races.
If you can afford it, you live in a decent neighborhood. There are many options in the city for that. There are neighborhoods that are predominately African-American and neighborhoods that are not. As a "non-African-American person" I really like Baltimore and it's diversity. I imagine my life to be not too different from anyone living in the city of Minneapolis.

Default Looking for new experience

I plan to visit Baltimore in September. Where can I find a middleclass african american neighborhood in Maryland. I was thinking of staying at a hotel in Inner Habor. I 've heard conflicting things about the area. Is it possible to purchase a detached 2 bedroom house for $200,000 and under? What are the taxes like? I am also considering Georgia and North Carolina. Thanks.
