The OP asked if it was safe for a woman to ride the bus, yes it was in 2007 but nothing was really changed on the buses since that time.

In no way am I trying to dscourage ridership, I am not even sure where you got that from my post?

If you disagree with me thats fine, but don't put words in my mouth, thanks!

There are plenty of "white" women who ride the buses every day without a problem. You made the claim-not I. Try to find a more recent article to prove your point. Your whole, "It's safe it you are not white" argument doesn't fly. I'm white and use them and haven't had a problem.

It is, but that's a very rare incident (thus the notoriety surrounding it). The MTA transports almost 100 million riders per year. The odds of being assaulted on an MTA bus are significantly lower than being injured in a car accident.

Fwiw, the DC Metro has also experienced problems with incorrigible school youth on its trains after school lets out.

That's true rudy_d, I don't think people get beat to a pulp often!

I would like to see all the crimes that happen on buses but it seems masked.

It depends on which bus(es) and where you get on off and when. Sometimes I ride the #13 down a short stretch of North Ave.. Think it runs from Walbrook Jct. to somewhere in Canton. I am sure the demographics of the bus change two or three times on that route. There are several buses that run to/from North Baltimore/Roland Park Hopkins Area to Downtown and beyond.. The times I see them on St. Paul in the morning or Charles in the evening.. they are always packed with either college students or professionals and commuters coming presumably to and from work..so I guess it all depends
