Regarding table games in Baltimore, I'm really getting annoyed with the anti question 7 commercials. The facts and interviews are a joke. Even if zero dollars go toward schools, the schools are no worse off than they are currently. Coupled with that, citing that 'construction has not started yet' is an even weaker argument. Of course it hasn't started, they just received preliminary approvals from the city.

It's a shame they don't include, SPONSORED BY WEST VIRGINIA CASINOS in their commercials.

The only reason there is so much opposition is because it includes a site in PG county, an enormous $800M-1B casino at the National Harbor, which will make it the largest casino outside of Las Vegas. The folks at Maryland Live aren't too happy.

I totally agree. Like I posted in the other board, the only real reason they can give of opposing expanded gambling is that it will take business away from the existing casinos. That's like saying you can't put in a Sonic because that might take business away from Checkers. Competition is part of capitalism. Competition is good and will result in better experiences for guests, better comps, better deals, better odds at ALL the casinos. Plus National Harbor will increase the size of the pie and get tourists from other parts of the country and the world who are visiting Washington DC. And we do need table games at all the casinos, and they should also allow smoking and free alcoholic drinks at all the casinos too.

The Baltimore City site is terrible, it should have been on the harbor directly and maybe involved riverboat casino cruises. And I think the OCean Downs site should have been in Ocean City itself to attract more visitors. Rocky Gap is a ridiculous place opening that resort was a mistake in teh beginning. Deep Creek Lake would be better.

Like every other casino. The odds favor the house. Particularly the slot machines.

The Casino's are privately owned and financed. The State will make it's money from a really high tax rate on the gambling incomes.

Selling the lodge at Rocky Gap to a casino company was the only way the state could cut bait on the bad investment without mothballing or totaling the structure, which would cost our county jobs and tourism money.

Slot parlors are largely for day trippers anyway, Rocky Gap is an hour closer to downstate than Deep Creek, thus more accessable.

I wonder who will go to Rocky Gap really. For people living around Frederick or Montgomery County, Charles Town WV will still be closer and if National Harbor is built that will also attract a lot of player from the DC area. Charles Town is within an hours drive of Rockville and Gaithersburg. And Baltimore area residents will soon have the choice between the new downtown casino, Perryville, and Arundel Mills. Even if National Harbor is built, I think Montgomery County will still be closer to Arundel Mills esepcailly given the long trip around the DC Beltway to National Harbor. National Harbor will get a lot of national and international tourist businesss which si what we need.

Maryland General Assembly and the Governor botched this.. and to a greater degree PG County. There should have only been casinos in Baltimore, PG County (National Harbor), Ocean City, and Western MD period.. Not Perryville and Arundel Mills... But because PG was against it before it was for it.. it created the opportunity for Maryland Live. If it were only the four mentioned above the State would have had all the bases covered and could have had quality facilities with table games end of story.. Now it has become in the eyes of some sleezy with Gambling interest from all over lobbying for and against the additional table games and casino and likely paying off politicos on both sides of the issue... now with it being on the ballot with moral questions/arguments/opinions and the Presidential election who knows which way it will go....In Baltimore City... there are millions of dollars in Bonds on the Ballot for Schools, the usual suspects like the Zoo and Walters, along with Economic and Community Development projects that are unamed though likely in some form of slush fund to dole out for developers.. They all will likely be approved and add to the already overburden tax bill at some point in the future if loaned out and not repaid... Not against the Bonds.. I just hate the way they are being managed knowing that shadow groups like the BDC cant wait to get their hands on our money to mis manage it....
