The Fitzgerald on W Oliver St and Mt. Royal Ave. is a beautiful concept.. but what about the eyesore next door? USPS garage is noisy all day and night, all the big trucks belching black smoke, air tools running, etc... what plans are in the works for this building???

Default Gentrification in action

This is what happens: you let the yuppie scum in and they begin making demands. Seriously, years ago we were looking at the Struever Bros. townhouses on Towson Street in Locust Point. But when I did my research, I realized that the 24-hour transfer station next door would never move and that there would be trailer trucks idling outside every day, all day and night. The reason in that particular case was that EPA regulations would make building a new transfer station somewhere else very expensive whereas the old Locust Point station was grandfathered in and could belch eternally.
I have no information but believe that the USPS facility next to The Fitzgerald will eventually disappear. It's not very large or convenient, particularly since next to no mail these days is transported by train, which was among the reasons for its current location.

There is a plan for it to go away as Phase II of this project.. The site plan here shows additional retail and possibly a grocery store. I assume this is all contingent on the real estate/financial markets in addition to UPS ( or the feds.. .if it is actually a postal facility) willingness to sell and relocate.

Seems like the ideal site for a grocery store.. though there is a Safeway in Charles North... stay tuned

When it was originally planned, a grocery store was slated for that site. Ultimately, it will happen although it may be awhile until the economy rebounds.
