I did a search and haven't seen any kind of update to the story about how the mysterious grave visitor did not make an appearance at the grave this past January.

Has there been any new revelations to this development in the tradition?

Not sure there is anything to update. The person didn't show up, that's pretty much the story.

Maybe they died or didn't want to be accosted by the mob that was waiting for him/her.

Thanks for the reply. I've always had a curiousity about this tradition. I thought that as time went on and it became increasingly popular, that maybe the popularity might just ruin it.

But if the annual visit ended due to the 200th anniversary, then I thought maybe the "visitor" might leave a note or explanation after that day.

There was speculation in the City Paper that the recently deceased poet David Franks may have been the Poe toaster.

It had to end sometime. No one lives forever!

What a cool yet creepy tradition though! Was always a fan
