I'm correcting your oversight. You are free to interpret it any way you like.

I have dealt with many realtors in Maine. I am not sure how many distinctions exist between them.

I think I have explained this previously on this forum.

You have explained the differences between using a real estate agent, and purchasing directly from the property owner.

What WhoFan is trying to explain, is that not all real estate agents are the same. Anyone can become an ordinary real estate agent by taking a test and getting licensed (if they pass the test).

A 'Realtor', on the other hand, is a sub-set of real estate agents, a member of a professional organization (The National Association of Realtors) with higher standards of education and certification. 'Realtor' is a registered trademark. A real estate agent who is not a member of the organization is NOT a 'Realtor' and cannot call themselves one.

Lumping all real estate agents together and calling them 'realtors', is insulting and offensive to those who aspire to a higher standard and are legitimately able to call themselves 'Realtors'.

A 'Realtor' is a real estate agent, but not all real estate agents are 'Realtors'.

Thanks Zymer. I was merely setting the record straight, as I know a great number of folks read the forum. The skills of an agent or a REALTOR can vary significantly, and anybody who hires one to help buy or sell property needs to do very thorough research. Unfortunately many spend more time choosing which restaurant to eat at than who is going to help them with one of the most significant transactions of their lives.

Mod Note:

No, FB, that's what you're saying.

The OP has asked for advice on buying forested property and you (and others) have given him some good feedback.

Please stick with the topic rather than turning the thread into a general debate on the merits of real estate agents.
