Every so often someone will ask about cool stuff to do in Bangor, and especially for those not of the "seasoned workers" category...

This evening I attended the first of what should prove to be a very cool series of events. I attended the first, ever Pecha Kucha Night in Bangor.

"Pecha Kucha Night is an opportunity for people to show off their creative work and accomplishments to the community. Designers, painters, architects, wood workers, sculptors, dancers, photographers, academics, athletes, landscape architects, urban planners, farmers, advertising professionals, filmmakers, entrepreneurs and more are all welcome to participate," according to their write up on Facebook. There is a website as well, that tells about the event, which starts with a social hour with drinks (beer, wine and non-alcoholic offerings) and finger foods. There was a $5 admission, which even this cheapskate found quite do-able.

The main event is a series of slide presentations -- which can be about literally ANYTHING -- in what they call a 20x20 format... presenters show 20 slides, each on screen for only 20 seconds, during which time they are also speaking.. sometimes about the slide and sometimes less so. Usually there are 5 presenters, an intermission for 10 minutes (there was a countdown on screen) and then 5 more presentations.

This is something that began in Japan in 2003 and has been picked up by folks in many places around the globe... and to think, we have it happening in Bangor! I really enjoyed my evening, met and talked with some new folks and will definitely attend the next one, scheduled for August.

No, but I am hoping to in the future. Only problem for me will be what to talk about! It is supposed to be something you are passionate about...

You've been interviewed how many times since you've been here? Somehow finding something to say doesn't seem like that big of a problem.

My son attended the Lynard Skynard - ZZ Top concert. Didn't even have to buy a ticket. He and his buddy paid $10 to park at Shaws and sat in the car and enjoyed the whole thing. Every one from Main Street up to past 5th street enjoyed it in their homes. We are about a mile away and were able to hear it too. The 8:30 to 9:30 part was what we heard mostly then the ZZ Top part was scaled back a bit. I understand they had about 8000 paying customers.

We decided to not take chances on Skynard and the weather and didn't get tickets. We are going to Toby Keith and Jeff Dunham. Alex has done a great job bringing big names to Bangor.

Yeah, I was there. A great concert. There are more coming this year if anyone wants to see live entertainment. Lady Antebellum (probably spelled wrong) is coming latter this summer.
