<smirk grin giggle> That was my dad! He was chief deputy! I kid you not. He was. He worked nights because he had a full time job. He'd sit on Rt 2 running radar. He caught illegal immigrants and druggies, more than enough drunks and people with warrants when all his intended to do was have them slow down. Once you've passed the only cruiser in Veazie you know it's safe to speed, right? Cross that line into Bangor or Orono and another cop, his buddy the Statie, was waiting for you. My father became a cop so that he'd know what my 10 years younger sister was up to. I guess he didn't want her following in my foot steps....
OMG what a small world!! He never stopped me, but the Veazie police was FAMOUS among us for stopping people! You tell him next time you talk to him, he slowed a lot of us down!!
YES! that's it!! thank you....I hate it when I'm trying to think of something but can't! Thank you Maine Writer! and it's not there anymore...I can't even remember if the building is....David might know!
David, nope, there was one across from the country club....shoot, started with an O....darn it! Maine Writer, can you remember? It would have been around '85 and '86....darn! well, I'll get back if I can remember it....maybe it was more in Orono than Veazie, but if so, it was right on the line-ish!
Yes, Oronoka, closed now. Great site for someone wanting to open a restaurant. Yes, Molly, it still was me.
Oh good Lord! This was supposed to be about VEAZIE and I rambled on. My many times great grandfather was General Samuel Veazie. The town has a nice elementary school on (ta da...) School Street. I grew up three doors down from where the school is now. Back then it was a butcher shop. I used to walk up the road to get a cut of meat for supper and an icy cold soda out of the old fashioned machine.
Veazie is a nice town. It's grown some since I lived there but not much has changed. You have a choice of high schools because Veazie doesn't have one of its own. Students are tuitioned. Most go to Orono. There's a contract to provide busing to the high school there. If you want to provide your own transportation you can also go to Bapst, Bangor, Brewer or Old Town. Others are probably too far to consider.
Public transportation comes off Rt 2, down School Street, around the corner to Oak Grove, around the corner to....another street, and cuts back up to Rt 2 heading toward Orono, backward on the way back of course.
Thanks, Maine Writer! I love reading all the replies, ramblings and all ! So how far is Veazie from downtown Bangor? I know this has been asked in another thread, but can you recommend any other smaller towns around the Bangor area? Thanks !
