Hi, I'm not from this area but go to school at U Maine. Next year I'd like to try and get a place a little ways out, closer to a mountain. I really like western maine (like industry/newsharon) and wanna try to find a place nearby kinda like that. Let me know if you have any suggestions! But trying to keep it 30 mins tops away from Orono. Thanks!

One of my neighbors [Peter] has taken a few UM-Orono students kayaking on the Penobscot River. He and I live along the river [just a tad North of Old Town]. He goes up to Howland and floats down to his place, takes about 5 hours. They have seen a lot of great fall colors this past couple weeks. If you do not mind doing a couple portages, you could go all the way down to Orono.

I have another friend [Mike] who spends a lot of his time on the river. He collects eagle feathers and Indian artifacts.

Here in our township, there are a few people who camp along the river, though mostly in the summer. Sometimes I give people rides up to whatever property they have permission to be camping on. Or if they come out of the woods every couple weeks, they need rides into town for supplies, etc.

What is your major?

Try Eddington and Clifton on the Airline. That's Route 9 going east from Brewer. It is called "the airline" because it was so much safer and faster than the old route 9 from Brewer to Calais.
