A sad reality. Both of my grandfathers were mill workers - one of them in Brewer - the other in Millinocket. It won't be long now before all we have is McJobs and WalJobs.

I read an article the other day in which a business owner was talking about how his business was doing better while the gas prices where higher. He said that even though shipping and delivery prices were going up and the price of his goods were too and his customers moaned about 'not being able to afford anything anymore', they still kept on coming in and buying stuff as if nothing was any different. Then, when gas began to lower, so did his customer base.

Trouble is, how do you stop all those budget deprived Americans from shopping at Walmart and the Dollar Store. Those of us that complained about the influx of big box retailers taking our dollars out of state were drowned out by the throng. Now that they have eliminated the majority of smaller local retailers we're stuck with supporting that whole out sourced system.

Cianbro is just suffering along with the rest of the economy. If the idiots in Washington and Disgusta would just do nothing, we will ride it all out in a few years. There will be plenty of entrepreneurs around to pick the carcasses and we will roar back, better than ever.

I hear you. That's why I try to shop smaller venues (what few are left that is) and ask myself if the latest flibnit or doodad are really worth it.
