What other things happen at the VFW? You guys ever get any friendly card games going?

Know what I think this place needs? A pub that people kind of consider "home", you know? I'm thinking that's what Lynn and Russ have in mind. I believe it would go over huge here.
Hopefully more people will think the same thing!

Yes.

He was doing those weekly. Now he has been doing them every two weeks.

I do hope they can work out a good system though. The post had given him a half-off discount for his first year of rentals, hoping that he could get his business up and going. But now that the first year is over, it appears that $150 hall rental is too much.

I do hope that he can work out something to be able to keep going. I have been cooking burgers for the wrestlers and fans for the past couple months.

LOL

Got busted by the cops and fined. So now there is no organized poker tournament. It appears that if anyone loses much money, then their wife calls the cops.

It happened before when the post had a half-dozen slot machines. Someone lost money so their wife called the cops.

We do have: a poker table and stuff, a pool table, an air-hockey table, a Foosh-ball table, a monthly meat raffle, one 'loose' sealed-ticket game with $500 pay-off, two sealed-ticket games in machines, and a 25 cent daily 'pot-of-gold' raffle with $150 pay-out.

Mother's Day is half-price wine drinks for all mothers, etc.

I guess Lynn and I had better brush up on our poker skills. Or lack thereof.

Lynn and I may be up within the next few months to check out the Orono and surrounding area. I know ew said September but we cannot wait that long. If anyone has any info on buildings that would support a small pub/tavern and allow us to live above it, please send it to our private message on this forum.

We have emailed back and forth with Tammy from Super Realty but would like feedback from the folks who live in the area.

Thanks for any help or info.
Lynn and Russ

Try for really close to Pat's Pizza. Behind the hardware store and Margherita's restauranta.

I sell at the farmer's market, which is sometimes located in that parking lot. It does get a lot of foot traffic.

If you want foot traffic in Orono, then you need to be right in that area.

Lynn and Russ - did you ever end up opening your pub?

We're looking into moving to Maine, and Orono is attractive since both our jobs are in academic research. What's it like living in the Orono area for a 40's couple with school age kids?

Thanks for any info --

I knew it was an old thread - that's why I asked Lynn and Russ whatever happened with their pub idea. If they are still on these boards maybe they will answer.

I guess I could have moved my other question to a new thread, but didn't see the need to make a whole new topic for a basic question.

I thought people were friendly in Maine....
