How likely do you think it is that Lee would end up in Washington for 7 years? Would it be worth overpaying in both salary and contract years to land Cliff Lee to add to the Werth acquisition?
I love Lee and Werth is pretty damn good but wow, did Daniel Snyder buy the Nats? This will unravel the team long term or will it sell seats, probably not enough and they will be handcuffed long term...
7 years for either is long term madness, they dont have the cash the Yankees do
Lee won't go to the Nats.....its not only a money grab for him, he also wants to win a World Series. If the Yankees are offering 6 years and the Nationals 7...Lee will sign with the Yanks.
Werth went for the money. Lee knows he will get the money from a contender so he will most likely wind up with the Yankees, Rangers, or another contender.

Agreed. Lee seems to be more of a team player, where Werth has always been about his stats, his happiness and his investments.
Can you provide us with a reason to respect that opinion as anything beyond a wild guess?
While everyone is entittled to an opinion, not all opinions are equal, nor are all opinions worth a public airing. The right to have an opinion is one thing, the ability to have the opinion respected is something which must be earned. You are skipping the earning part with the above.
Instead of buying 2 players at that price. Why not buy 6 players at that price who are solid ball players. One great pitcher pitching once every 5 games is not going to be a huge difference maker. Even if he wins 20 games (which would be a stretch) still would not put that team in the playoffs.
Werth has been playing in hitter friendly Citizens Bank ball park. I expect to see a decline offensively.

NO, IT'S NOT A WILD GUESS!!!!! Did you and Filihok noticed I used the word "seems", like not being 100% sure???
I have a close friend who works in the Phillies front office so I base my opinion of what he says and from what I hear through the media about both players. I've been following baseball for over 40 years so I feel I have a sense of what a player is like.
Lee works with several charities and never hesitates when asked to go to visit a sick kid at a local hospital. Lee coordinates golf outings and team functions on off days. Lee doesn't curse out fans when they catch a foul ball and he will speak with reporters anytime and shows them respect, even on days he didn't make it through the second inning. When Lee left Philadelphia he was hurt and confused but didn't bad mouth the team. Werth cried that he wasn't wanted anymore because Amaro showed financial responsibility and didn't write him a blank check.
I don't have to earn the right to express my opinion from you. I've been a member of this forum for over four years so if the Moderator approves my posts that's good enough for me. Sorry I can't throw stats at you like Filihok can.
This isn't worth aggravating my ulcer over.
