Not great news for the A's, they have but two of the top 100 propsects, # 63 SS Grant Green, and # 91 OF Chris Carter.

The Giants have the # 23 prospect, 1B Brandon Belt. Belt began his pro career in A ball last season and shot up the ladder to Triple A by the end of the year. In 136 games at three levels, he hit .353-455-.620 with 76 extra base hits. And you know what Baseball America says is his best tool? His defense.

And wasn't it the Mayans who predicted that 2011 would be an excellent year in the Bay Area for rookies with alliterative names?

How can the Yankees have the #3 prospect? Everybody knows they don't develop their own players. There must be some mistake.

Montero was signed as an amateur free agent for $1.6 million. Meaning that the Yankees had to bid against every other team to sign him. I don't know that the Yankees are any worse than most teams at developing talent, but I do know they hold their own at signing free agents.

Baseball America’s top propects, 10 years later - Angels blog - The Orange County Register
by Sam Miller

Quote:
Baseball America’s top 100 prospects come out today. And, roughly 10 years ago today, Baseball America’s top 100 for 2001 came out. Ten years isn’t quite enough time to reflect on those rankings, but it’s darned close, so that’s more or less what I did. I measured the Wins Above Replacement* for every minor leaguer in baseball at the time to see what the perfect top 100 would have looked like

Actual/BA 2001
Pujols/Hamilton
Ichiro/Corey Patterson
Oswalt/Beckett
Sabathia/Rauch
Utley/Sheets
Miguel Cabrera/Sean Burroughs
Zambrano/Sabathia
Rollins/Ryan Anderson
Brandon Webb/Ichiro
Hanley Ramirez/Nick Anderson
