Whitesox have won 3 of 4, maybe they can still make some noise. Not that far out of first.

Pablo Sandoval's weight loss and improved conditioning isn't just paying off with the recovery of his 2009 stroke. Watching the games, he certainly has appeared to have improved defensively, and the numbers support this impression. His defensive WAR for 2010 was -0.6. So far this year he has compiled 0.9 WAR with his glove and arm. (Baseball Reference stats)

Would somebody please tell LaRussa that his bullpen sucks, and he can't depend on them game after game after game to come in in the 6th inning of a 2-1 game and keep cycling through until he finds the one who is ineffective. He uses every reliever in every game, one batter at a time, until he discovers which one is not effective. Last night, he hit the jackpot. The first one he brought in promptly gave up a 2-out, 2-run triple to the first batter, which eliminated the drama of waiting to see which one would get shelled and when.

If Brandon Belt could just play against the Dodgers every game he'd be an All-Star:

Belt against LA: .259/.394/.519
Belt against everyone else: .206/.289/.235

Second night in a row, LaRussa's revolving door mediocrity from the bullpen, first pitch hit for game-tying RBI, sending it into fatal extra innings.

Didn't have time to post this game as Fili's GOD, but superb game between the Giants and Dodgers today. Kershaw vs Lincecum

Baseball Video Highlights & Clips | 7/20/11: Kershaw superb in outdueling Lincecum - Video | MLB.com: Multimedia

Dodgers win 1 - 0 on a Dioner Navarro splash down in McCovey Cove.

Kershaw pitches this gem: 8 IP, 3 hits, 0 runs, 1 walk, 12 K's.

Using batted ball FIP, Kershaw would be expected to give up -.78 runs based on his walks, strikeouts, and batted ball types.

Better than the no-hitters by Liriano and Verlander earlier in the season.

Although the Twins have managed to get within hailing distance of the front-runners, I would expect that this four-game set with Detroit will end badly for Minnesota as the Tigers are hitting on all-cylinders and will be starting Verlander and guaranteed an opening game victory on their way to a series sweep.
