The season doesn't start for a a few more days but I'm getting antsy.

Opening Day

Here's a place where we can discuss the 2011 season and all the goings on that don't really merit their own thread.

Go Dodgers!!!

I'm expecting a really big year for Justin Verlander and we'll all get to see him Thursday afternoon. If he and Sabathia are both sharp, it will not be a fun day for the hitters.

I've said for years opening day should be a federal holiday.

Because I like to gamble, here are the o/u for the season
  • Arizona – 72
  • Atlanta – 88.5
  • Baltimore – 74.5
  • Boston – 96
  • Chicago Cubs – 82
  • Chicago Whitesox – 84.5
  • Cincinnati – 87
  • Cleveland – 71
  • Colorado – 87.5
  • Detroit – 83.5
  • Florida – 81.5
  • Houston – 73.5
  • Kansas City – 70
  • LA Angels – 85
  • LA Dodgers – 82
  • Milwaukee – 84.5
  • Minnesota – 87
  • NY Mets – 78.5
  • NY Yankees – 91
  • Oakland – 82.5
  • Philadelphia – 97
  • Pittsburgh – 65.5
  • St. Louis – 87.5
  • San Diego – 75.5
  • San Francisco – 88.5
  • Seattle – 70
  • Tampa Bay – 86
  • Texas – 88.5
  • Toronto – 75.5
  • Washington – 72
Boston at 96 is high, and I don't think the Cubs have a winning season in them. Seattle at 70 might be a little low too, but they could suck bigtime.

I'm not a gambler-especially when it comes to the pure sport of baseball-but the under on Philly is almost a lock. I'd also take the under on Houston.

As good as the Phillies pitching is. I just can't see all 4 aces staying healthy all year and I think that's what it would take to win that many games with the lineup they have.

I wish I could get more excited about my Mets than I am. But I'll say this much: some of the new arrivals are better than they're getting credit for. (And, finally at long last, Oliver Perez is gone--the sigh of relief should've been audible halfway across the continent!)

If they will just exhibit a little consistency--that is to say, play a full season as opposed to forgetting how to win after the first of July--life will be livable in Citifield Land.

Halladay has been on the DL once in the last 3 years. Has made 98 starts (13th in baseball) and 735.2 innings (most in baseball)
Lee has been on the DL once in the last 3 years. Has made 93 starts (33rd in baseball) and 667.1 innings (5th most in baseball)
Hamels has not been on the DL in the last 3 years. Has made 98 starts (13th in baseball) and 629.2 innings (14th most in baseball)
Oswalt has been on the Dl once in the last 3 years. Has made 94 starts (30th in baseball) and 601.2 innings (22nd most in baseball).

Yeah. Pitchers get injured. But it's hard to find a rotation that has been more durable than what the Phillies have put together.

I agree they are all really durable. Just seems like something always happens when you get a group of guys together that just seem like they are going to run away with it.
