Dave Dombrowski led the Sox to three straight division titles and a world championship just last season. This year they aren't contending, but at least have a .521 winning percentage.
I'm surprised there isn't more shock here. Dombrowski is one of the best GMs in the game and is very solid. He got the Red Sox contending, and I still believe that he could have still done more with these guys. Come on, it's not like Boston is losing 100 games this year. They just didn't keep it going this year. Teams go through that. Next year, I think Boston is going to solidly contend. Now, we'll just have to wait to see who they bring in, but I think that firing Dombrowski was a mistake.

So, naturally they had to fire him.
GS, I'd have to disagree. It was a rash decision. They won the Big One last year, and it's not like there's suddenly going to be a fire sale at Fenway. Sometimes, teams tend to have off-years after the Big One. I've seen way worse.

Cora is next to walk the plank. New GM will want his guy in there and rebuild the farm system. That can be jumpstarted by trading Betts in his walk year for a boatload of prospects.

Mookie doesn't seem like he wants a low offer.....they tried 200mm and he declined. I'm betting if he goes then JD will also.
Cora will get another year to get it right. He doesn't seem like a guy that is hard to get along with and being basically a rookie manager he probably wouldn't put up a big fight.

A Betts trade won't yield as big a return as people seem to think. Any trade partner in such a scenario would be getting, essentially, a one-year rental. Yes, Mookie is talented on an other-worldly level, but most teams aren't going to give up much more than one Top 50 prospect for that one year. Look at what the Dodgers gave up for 2 months [plus a postseason] of Machado.
The trade that would bring back a bigger haul of prospects would be Benintendi, who won't see free agency until 2023. Obviously, he's not Mookie Betts. But those years of control are quite valuable to a lot of teams.
Not anymore. Better get used to the name Chaim Bloom.
Saw this guy and thought the Red Sox were hoping to find a younger Theo Epstein.
