Let's get detailed again.

A pitcher faces 100 batters

In instance 1 the pitcher gets 25 strike outs. K%=25
In instance 2 the pitcher gets 25 strike outs. K%=25

In instance 1 the pitcher walks 15 batters. BB%=15
In instance 2 the pitcher walks 10 batters. BB%=10

In both instances the pitcher gives up 20 hits and all other batters were out.

In instance 1 the pitcher recorded 65 outs. 25 of the outs were by strike out. 25/65 = 38%
In instance 2 the pitcher recorded 70 outs. 25 of the outs were by strike out. 25/70 = 36%

An increase in walk rate results in a decrease in outs by contact.

Anticipating your response: Yes, the drop in Greinke's K% in Aug likely means he's getting more outs by contact. But: it's !13! innings. Very little useful information can be drawn from !13! innings.

Disregarding the !13! August innings.

What, in your expert opinion, did Greinke do differently in July than he did in May and June?

Here are the numbers again:
MAY: K%=31.7, BB%=4.2, BABIP=.349, Left On Base%=58.8, ERA=5.29
JUNE: K%=27.8, BB%=4.8, BABIP=.350, Left On Base%=51.7, ERA=6.04
JULY: K%=33.6, BB%=7.0, BABIP=.271, Left On Base%=74.1, ERA=2.27
Higher walk percentage in July. Without even researching i'd say more forceouts and double plays...CONTACT.

You're intellectual level must be well beyond mine, or something. I have no idea what you are saying.

He struck out his highest percentage in July. What does that have to do with contact, er CONTACT

It might behoove you to do a little research from time to time before you post. Just a thought.

Don't ever question my intellect. If you have to constantly quote someone elses figures and formulas without using a simple process of elimination, it proves you have no common sense or a mind of your own.

In that none of us compile any baseball stats, but rather rely on information found published on the net or in newspapers which was compiled by others, it is now proven that none of us have any common sense or minds of our own.

And, oh....was the warning about questioning your intellect meant to apply only to filihok, or is it off limits for all posters? What are your methods for enforcing this doctrine?

There could not have been any greater response than this. Bravo!

I'm sure that this is what Newton really meant to say. Damn political correctness.

Clearly, yours is the superior intellect, as I cannot begin to fathom how a simple process of elimination applies to this situation.

Simple process of elimination. Kind of like this...if I remove your left arm, you can only throw with your right.

Ahhh...I think that it is all starting to sink in.

I was using the phrase 'process of elimination' to mean eliminating incorrect answers to arrive at the correct answer. This is how most people use it.

However, as you've pointed out, using other people's formulas is not using my own mind.

Apparently you and your mind are using the phrase 'process of elimination' to mean eliminating a person's extremities.

I figured i'd break it down to simple terms for you.
