I guess he was given the option of resigning or getting firing due to pretty much losing 17 out of 18. No Manager should remain employed when a team goes 1-17 in 18 games. Can't believe they are under .;500 and in last place. So he did the right by resigning,

The Marlins are tied 1-1 in heir first game right now without the manager-lol

he definitely wasn't pressured ... they had recently replaced the hitting coach and have been going through a horrible stretch with their best pitcher and position player missing a good chunk of this streak (which is actually worse than 1-17..........)

edwin is someone the front office is very comfortable with and FO has stated that they weren't expecting his resignation and were a little surprised when he gave it

edgwin also stated that the team played really hard even until the end ... but you could see him getting more and more frustrated

he's a real stand up guy and my personal opinion is that he became frustrated that he couldn't get this team to play like he wanted and how they played to start the season - so he stepped down on his own

i still fully expect a full manager search to happen this post season (edwin was on a 1 year contract - if it didn't work out they wouldn't retain him, if he did they would have) .... the fact that they had to put in an assistant as interim and then scramble for someone to finish out this season (rumored to be trader jack) further show that he wasn't pressed out

he writes a journal in one of the puerto rican papers which has been a great and honest read .... will be interesting to see what he says in that, where he doesn't have to be as PC as in the american press

Accepting that the Marlins were not planning on firing Rodriguez at the time he resigned, it still might have been just a matter of time before they felt that they had to make that move. He may be gone but the nightmare may well continue. They lost again today, making them 1-18 for the month of June, and they are in a position to challenge the '88 Orioles for the worst month in ML history. They have nine games remaining in June and if they drop all of them, their .035 winning percentage would best Baltimore's .043. If they win just one of those nine contests, they wind up 2-26 and drop to third place behind the '16 A's. At 3-25, they would have the fifth worst month ever recorded.

These are the worst months:
Quote:
Team Win % W-L Month
1988 Orioles .043 1-22 April
2011 Marlins* .053 1-18 June
1916 Athletics .067 2-28 July
1982 Twins .103 3-26 May
1943 Athletics .103 3-26 August
72 Rangers .115 3-23 Sept.
Florida Marlins vs. Tampa Bay Rays - Recap - June 19, 2011 - ESPN

Notice something in that list of wretched months? If the Marlins hold on to stage the worst June ever, than all six months of the season will be represented in the six worst months list. Apparently prime magnitude meltdowns may strike at any time.

I also heard Jack McKeon is likely to take the reigns.

The Marlins are 3-21 since injuring Buster Posey...and Scott Cousins is on the DL.

Karma?

Yeah, some mystic cosmic force for justice was so upset about Posey getting hurt on what was a legal slide that it decided to punish the entire Marlins organization by making them play poorly in June.

How old is McKeon...and would a losing streak like this kill him?
