The most recent voting has theses players leading at their positions:
NL AL
1B Albert Pujols Adrian Gonzalez
2B Rickie Weeks Robinson Cano
3B Placido Polanco Alex Rodriguez
SS Troy Tulowitzki Derek Jeter
C Brian McCann Russell Martin
OF Ryan Braun Jose Bautista
OF Lance Berkman Curtis Granderson
OF Matt Holliday Josh Hamilton
DH David Ortiz

Gonzalez is the right choice for AL 1b, of course Albert is injured and won't be playing, and supposedly wasn't going to be playing even if healthy because of the boycott business which he said he was supporting. And he doesn't merit selection anyway based on the year he has been having, it should be Joey Votto.

Weeks is good for NL 2b, and Cano is good for AL, but just as good as has been Howard Kendrick of the Angels.

Arod has climbed his way to the top of the OPS leaderboard for all ML thirdbasemen, so his vote isn't just a fame thing. But Placido Polanco would seem to be only the 4th or 5th best NL third sacker. Chase Headley of the Padres would be the better choice.

Shortstop is where the worst voting has taken place. Jeter is a middle of the pack shortstop at best and Jhonny Peralta of the Tigers is having an outstanding year. Jose Reyes deserves the nod over Tulowitzki in the NL.

McCann is the right choice for NL catcher, but Russell Martin? Really? .230 .333 .407 Russell Martin? He is a better choice than say the Tigers .303 .371 .538 hitting Alex Avila? Apart from his Yankeeness, what qualifies Martin as the All Star starter?

Matt Kemp of the Dodgers is more worthy of an OF NL slot than are the three leading vote getters, but those three are right behind Kemp. The Rays Matt Joyce is having a better year than Hamilton in the AL OF, maybe Carlos Quintan as well. Otherwise, we are okay there.

And Ortiz is the proper choice for DH.

Not too bad this year, only Jeter and Martin represent true outrages.

Would the fans rather see Chase Headley?
Would the team have a better chance of winning with Chase Headley on the field?

I took a little bit of liberty to get the best players in the game

Pretty sick that Paul Konerko can't even get a mention as a snub on fili's list with the season he is having.
