Not JUST his 3000th hit, but he did it with a home run!

I'm not even a big baseball fan but I figured it'd be a big deal to witness, so I had my hubby call me to the TV when DJ was up. I'm so glad I did!

Congrats to DJ and the Yankees both - first 3000 made by someone wearing the pinstripes.

A few more and he'll have as many hits on the field as off.

Because he's a Yankee we'll be hearing about this for another 3 years.

Probably so, because no other Yankee ever got 3,000 hits.

Yep, the East Coast Sports Programming Network won't shutup about it...of that you can be assured..

And what's with Jeter being known as the captain..?

Other MLB teams don't have captains.

Oh wait, I checked it out...only 3 teams have captains..the Yankees, Red Sox, and White Sox. Figures.. 2 of those clubs think they're better than anybody else, and if you're not convinced of that fact.. no problem, they'll just buy your support..the same way they try to buy titles..

They are making a big deal out of this because it is a big deal. Derek Jeter has just capped an obvious Hall of Fame career by reaching a rare accomplishment in the game, and he did it in a spectacular manner. Further, he did all this in New York, the East coast media capitol, and for the New York Yankees, baseball's most famous and successful team. And he has done it without behaving like a prime magnitude jerk.

His only crime seems to be being a Yankee. The media may have turned him into some sort of divinity, but Jeter has never indulged in a self promoting attitude or encouraged the worship.

This is his day, lets give him his due.

Tomorrow we can go back to complaining about how he is washed up and overpaid.
