Don't jinx him by bringing that up.

Since coming back from the DL, Zito has pitched his best ball in a Giants uniform. He's won all three of his starts, pitched 21 innings, giving up three earned runs, striking out 11 while walking four.

I've realized that I overlooked one of the bigger bombs of '11. For his 14.5 million dollars that the Red Sox are paying him, Carl Crawford is smoking the ball at a .243 .275 .384 .659 pace. This may be the most inexplicable flameout of the entire group. Crawford is still a young player and he moved to a stadium which is hitter friendly.

The LA Dodgers are paying GM Ned Colletti an unspecified amount to make deals like these:

Andrew Lambo and James McDonald to Pittsburgh for Octavio Dotel.
McDonald has produced 1.9 WAR for the Pirates at a league minimum salary and has 3 more years of team control. Dotel was worth -0.1 WAR in 19 games before Colletti traded him for some junk minor leaguer.

Raul Ibanez is hitting .289 (OBP)/.486 (SLG)/.312 (wOBA). That's 1 run below average. His 'defense' has been worth -16 runs. All told, Ibanez is -1 WAR while collecting $11.5 million this year.

Juan Pierre .328/.313/.288 and Alex Rios .259/.305 have combined for -1.4 WAR while collecting $20.5 million

The Giants blew the Phillies out of the water humiliating their pitching staff and dominated the WS. When I learned that they had benched 126M for the playoffs, not put on the DL but benched I knew that we could win.I was in Hawaii watching the games and my daughter chastised me for not rooting for the team. Then I learned that he was toast and I could again.

He is a curse, not just a loser. Anyway, just that since that had escaped your list, I thought that I would add it. Knowing how much you enjoy disagreeing with me I can only think of one trade worse that had as many bad effects as Zito. Perhaps it comes to your mind....?

I did mention Zito in my introduction.

And Zito wasn't the product of a bad trade, he was the product of a bad free agent signing.

As for your "one trade" that was worse, the Giants have had numerous bummers over the years, most recently the Nathan for A.J. Pierzynski deal, but the worst in SF history was probably the Gaylord Perry for Juicehead Sudden Sam McDowell.

You are correct. Zito stood alone and commanded the price of a prince. His curve is visible from the time it leaves his hand.

I was thinking of Mando Benitez.

Either way 126M nice guy and all that should be left behind. If the Giants want to win again, they know this too.
