He just came off the DL but he's still banged up and he was going through a ton of pressure with getting to 3000. It was a well deserved few days off for him. Just like the homerun derby, the all star festivities are voluntary. You don't have to participate and i'm glad he didn't.

Bah - it's not exactly taxing to make an appearance at an all star game .... the resting thing would of had more credibility if he didn't hop a plane to miami and live it up down there

He didn't need to play - but go and tip your cap and honor those who honor you

By tipping his hat and leaving he would be depriving someone else a chance to play. By not showing up someone else got a chance. The fact is that there are TONS of haters of the Yankees and this was just a BS reason for them again to complain about the best team in the history of MLB.

Felix Hernandez showed up even though he was not going to pitch. Verlander did the same.

Just because Jeter came did not mean he had to play. They could have still had a replacement.

And I know plenty of Yankees fans that feel he screwed up by not going.

No he wouldn't ... as noted there were a lot of players who showed up even though they weren't on the actual gametime rosters or had anychance to get in the game .... that argument just doesn't hold water

Perfect example is Victorino - he won the fan vote but pulled out for injury ... that opened the door for another roster add (not sure if that is what got montero on the team or not - which was a nice thing for local fans) .... he still showed up though

also there were a lot of yankee fans at the game who don't get a chance to see them much who would of loved to have been able to cheer his accomplishment for a moment .... my brother and his sons amongst them

He should have went to the game. Heck, Reyes was hurt and he still attended.

Please,...don't compare Reyes to Jeter. Get back to me in about 10 years and we'll see if they can be mentioned in the same sentence then.

There were a few local polls in NY and by a wide margin, most people were ok with it. Only a small group were upset.

Well, you're right about this part.

Jeter: .270 AVG, .330 OBP, .353 SLG, 3 HR, 8 SB, 14% worse hitter than the league average, 0.7 WAR
Reyes: .354 AVG, .398 OBP, .529 SLG, 3 HR, 30 SB, 57% better hitter than the league average, 4.7 WAR
