The Brewers have signed outfielder Norichika Aoki to a two-year contract with a club option for 2014. They had until 4 p.m. to sign Aoki or lose his negotiating rights.
Sounds like it is for $1 million guaranteed plus incentives. A good get for Washington. There's a chance they'll be in the wildcard hunt this year. An extra arm in the bullpen is always a good thing. If they aren't in the hunt, and Lidge is pitching well, they can always spin him for a lottery-ticket prospect.
Lidge isn't what he used to be. His velocity is down about 6mph from what it was in his Astros day. But he can still be a useful pitcher. His performance at the end of 2011 would be worth about a win if he could sustain it for an entire season.
Lots of noise on Twitter about Oswalt to the Cardinals
Also, Brad Penny to Japan
