We'll see how this pans out. It's too early for me to make any kind of judgment at this point. It's always hit or miss with the Japanese and he's coming into a different environment.

The fans who met him at the airport were put off by his "antisocial appearance", not understanding that that's the way of oriental culture to be reserved and respective - I hope we get over that quick before he's put off by us.

Another thing is the ball - will his game suffer while he adapts to a smaller ball?

Mmm - a number of differences are listed by Wiki, including a ball that is wound "tighter and is harder" than the American ball, and a strike zone that is tighter than ours.
