Josh Hamilton ties Joe Adcock's record of 18 total bases in one game, with four homers and a double.
Seven batters will have to come to the plate in the ninth, to give him a chance at topping that record.
No, I'm mistaken about that, Sean Green had 19 TB in a game. But 18 is the Hamilton's AL record. Adcock's double was off the top of the wall, he came within a couple of feet of a 5-HR game. As I recall, Mike Cameron sent the right fielder to the warning track going for his fifth homer.
Dodgers trailing 2-1 in the 8th inning. Dodgers with runners on 1st and 2nd with no outs. Matt Kemp on deck and Andre Either in the hole.
Dodger manager Don Mattingly calls for a sacrifice bunt. Runners on 2nd and 3rd with 1 out. Kemp, one of the best hitters in baseball (16% better than the average hitter vs righties and 64% better than the average hitter vs lefties) is intentionally walked. Ethier, who hits lefties 21% worse than an average hitter while hitting righties 40% better than an average hitter, comes to the plate with the bases loaded. The Giants bring in a left-handed reliever to face him. Ethier is retired. The Dodgers next two hitters are also left-handed. The Dodgers leave the bases loaded and lose 2-1.

What I liked was Kershaw losing the game on just the first two pitches of the second inning. Posey singled on the first pitch he saw, followed by Pill's titanic blast into the first row of seats on the next pitch.
Speaking of Pill, and from there reviving my notion about players who do not get their first shot at extended play in the bigs until they are already in their prime.....what do you make of the Cubs Bryan LaHair?

The Astros hope to finish off the Fish tonight. Series tied at 1. J.D. Martinez is in a serious slump (two weeks ago, his batting average was .310), so he's been moved to sixth in the batting order, with Jed Lowrie now hitting third.

Well, I wouldn't exactly get the playoff tickets printed yet, but you've got to give Baltimore credit for the start they're having. It's a refreshing change for those tired of seeing the Yankees on top.
Peavy is turning in another good one tonight. It's nice to see after how many people thought he was totally washed up. Hopefully the sox can stay relevant until at least July or so...
