Giants SS Brandon Crawford got ripped off by the umps tonight. He hit a double in the sixth inning, but then the Padres appealed, claiming Crawford had failed to touch first. The umps agreed and Crawford lost his hit.
On the replay it is quite clear that Crawford did touch first, so the umps blew the call, Crawford's double goes in the books as an out.
In the eighth inning, with the Giants up 7-1, Crawford was the final out, rolling a grounder to firstbase. Despite being out by a large margin, Crawford continued to the bag, and with his eyes fixed on the ump, made a big display of jumping on it with both feet.
I don't know if Crawford added some indelicate remark, or the wiseacre jumping act was sufficient in itself, but the end result was his getting tossed.
Before you make that Play of the Day, check out the 8-6-3 double play pulled off by the Giants in the top of the 8th tonight against the Padres. It isn't up on the MLB.com playlist yet, but I'm confident it will be soon.
I'm not overly concerned about the A-roid situation. Until Eric Chavez gets hurt.
