Made it! 15-14 since we hit grueling part of schedule, virtually same lead. Only Nats drew closer, moving in to tight 2/3/4 spots in NL East.

But I’ve been saying they should’ve fired Rojas LAST year, so I’ll keep sticking to that until he inevitable gets fired. And I said it last month or March or earlier but I’ll stick to it because I believe it: Rojas isn’t a championship-winning manager. Now it turns out he could luck out like Dave Martinez did with the Nats in the 2019 (still don’t think he’s a good managed) and luck into a championship but IMO Mets best chance at winning anything important is with Rojas away from the front seat.
I have come to like Rojas. I think his even keeled nature has guided the team well despite requiring 49 men so far for the active roster. I am not a fan of X/O moves as the basis for choosing a manager. 162 games = a grind, and unity and trust in each other are paramount. The best managers IMO never appear to be doing anything, as it is the minor league grooming, practicing and training, plus drafting and acquiring the right talent, that become the basis for whether the meal was cooked well.

This team, with massive injuries, had every rationale reason to quit already..go through the motions. Has not happened. Reminds me of 2015 when Collins did the same with 2-3 AA guys pre ASG daily due to injuries, yet stayed about .500, within 4-6 games of Nats. Then we got Cespedes, and a few others by trade, we got healthier, and we know what happened.

Playoffs are a coin flip. In 7 games, one ultra hot starter and an underdog can win.

Glad we got a split. Solid first half. Thoughts on Acuna and hope he comes back soon. It looked awful, but I assume if anything were broken, news would be out already. Hoping that is correct.

Welp, season ending ACL injury.

Oops. Just saw it.

Tragedy. I hope he is 100% upon his return. So talented. Plays so hard.

This is awful for MLB.

Bad series, but 3.5 up at ASG with massive injuries, I will gladly take.

In order to avoid Alonso winning a home run derby, MLB should have the 2022 game at Citi Field.

I am hoping they trade wisely. Like Pirates Frazier, not sure he is a solid fit. McNeil is weak at third, Dom Smith has truly become, at minimum, an average LF defensively (never thought it would occur).

I'd actually favor a 2 fold approach if we got Frazier. Get him first w/o stud kids involved.

Trade McNeil or Davis, plus a kid or two (below Ginn in pecking order, so no stud kids here either) for a good additional starter with 2022 under control and a decent 3rd baseman to lengthen the rotation and keep the Mets infield D of 2021 going well.

I also think, btw, based on his showing some pop to Right Center and stronger command behind plate of pushing pitchers to use weapons aggressively, Nido is a starting catcher somewhere in 2 years. If not for us, we will need a new, solid backup. He is not the timid kid he was a few years back, behind the plate or batting. I hope we keep him, with intent he is number 1 catcher in a few years. Even if 2024 must be a McCann/Nido split.

If the free fall does not stop, and the front office needs to make a deal so we know it is awake, the Phils will win the division IMO.
