Agreed. And I think Terry Collins has managed brilliantly. Certainly much better than our friendly local media was willing to give him credit for when he was signed.

Now he needs to give Tejada a day off. I suspect his unusual fielding lapses of late are fatigue-driven.

But yes, he has been one of MLB's best managers.

The Mets should have won last night and Dickey should have gotten number 15. They left too many men on base. This team needs a catcher, a big hitter and some pen help.

But that's old, old advice! When the franchise was created in 1961, they drafted a catcher first. And manager Casey Stengel explained, "If you don't have a catcher, you're gonna have a lot of passed balls."

R.A Dickey and Justin Verlander lead the league in strikeouts with 166 k's. Dickey is having an amazing season.

They have been pathetic this week, and for the first time under Collins, IMO, the effort is not there, nor the concern. and that last part is vital more so than the results.

On ESPN tonight-it would be a good time to send a message and bench most of the starters.

In addition, in September, they should call up the leading prospect at each of all 8 positions, and at least twice a week, play all 8, with all starters including Wright, watching.

I'd vote for that. In fact, if I was the manager, that's exactly what I'd do.

But let's hold off for a moment. They could start playing like they were in May and June, and wedge their way back into the race.
