I shut it off after the Mets 7th. I'd like to think I had some part of that comeback.

Nats 8 @ Mets 6.
A close 2-1 game turned on it's side with 2 Mets runs in the 6th & 7th to make it seem like an insurmountable 6-1 lead. Asdrubal Cabrera finished 4-5 with 2 RBI's and 2 runs scored on a home run, Todd Frazier went 2-4 with 2 RBI's, starting pitcher Jacob deGrom helped himself with an RBI single finishing 1-2, Amed Rosario had an RBI, Brandon Nimmo was 1-5 with a run scored, Michael Conforto was 1-4 with a run scored, Juan Lagares finished 1-3 with a walk and run scored, and Jose Lobaton had a run scored. Bryce Harper lead the Nats with a 2-4 day with 2 runs scored and 3 RBI's and his 8th home run, Howie Kendrick was 1-4 with 2 runs scored and an RBI with a home run, Matt Reynolds pinch hitting in the 6th run 8th inning had a bases loaded walk and ended up scoring a run, Wilmer Difo finished 2-4 with 2 RBI's, Moises Sierra finished 1-1 with a run scored, Michael Taylor had an RBI, Pedro Severino was 1-2 with a run scored, Trea Turner was 2-5 with a run scored. deGrom allowed 3 runs on 6 hits (1 home run) with 1 walk and 12 strikeouts in 7.1, AJ Ramos (0-1, 5th hold) allowed 2 runs on 1 hit with a walk and a strikeout in 1/3 of an inning (how do you get a hold and a loss??) and Jeurys Familia (1st blown save) allowed a hit and a bases loaded walk in 1/3 of an inning. Jeremey Hellickson allowed 2 runs on 7 hits with 1 walk and 3 strikeouts in 4.2, A.J. Cole (1-1) allowed 2 runs on 2 hits (1 homer) with a walk and a strikeout in 1 inning, Brandon Kintzler (2nd hold) had a 1-2-3 inning of work, and Ryan Madson (2nd save) had a hit allowed and a strikeout in a scoreless inning of work. Marlins lose to the Yankees 1-12, while the Braves beat the Phillies 2-1. That leaves the Mets still in the division lead at 12-3, 3 games up on both Atlanta & Philadelphia tied for 2nd at 9-6, Washington is in 4th at 8-9 5 back and the Marlins are 4-12 8.5 back. Game 2 of the series is Tuesday. Gio Gonzalez (1-1, 2.20) starts for the Nats against Zack Wheeler (1-0, 1.29) on Tuesday, game time scheduled for 7:10. Marlins stay in New York against the Yankees while the Phillies resume the series in Atlanta.

You sound pessimistic on Nats already. I assume due to overall play. Nats are in shape Mets were , in a way, 2015 and 2016 first half, where Collins did awesome job through June keeping makeshift lineups around .500, til cavalry came in. Eaton is one, if I were Nats fan, that bugs me, as that style injury on a speed guy usually nags him long after DL is over.

Nats "stole" Monday's game, Mets "stole" Wednesday's game. In the end the Nats won 2 of 3, but as pointed out in the Mets thread it almost feels disappointing. Had you have told me on Monday afternoon the Nats would win 2 of 3 I would have been beyond ecstatic, if you had told me after the 7th inning on Monday the Nats would win 2 of 3 I would've thought you were on drugs, but with how the Wednesday game turned out, disappointing to only win 2 of 3. Could've gone out to the West Coast 3 games back coming off a sweep and feeling great about ourselves after a sluggish start to the year, and now 5 back and scheduled to face Kershaw on Friday night in LA. Granted Kershaw has been human this year and even years past the Nats were able to string hits together against him, but not the pitcher you want to face coming off a game like last night, luckily they have the travel off day today.

And games like last night are the reason you can NEVER have too many bullpen arms. Madson is 37 years old has pitched 3 straight days, 4 times in 5 games, and I think 6 times in the last 8 games why is he out there?? And if Martinez continues to call on the same 4 or 5 relievers every game (the law firm of KMD [Kintzler, Madson, Doolittle], & Solis with the occasional Kelley appearance) that means the other 2 or 3 down there are crap, so why continue to keep them on the ML roster, why not bring up Trevor Gott or someone else from Syracuse, I mean can they really be any worse than the other 2 that never get in?? That's why I was a big proponent in the winter of: A) signing Davis and B) selling high on Taylor's postseason and trading him for a reliever. Maybe if we get Davis & then Herrera (in my hypothetical Taylor trade) maybe we don't resign Kintzler, but we still have Madson & Doolittle, Kelley, Gott and now Davis & Herrera 4 relievers that can get people out that you can trust in, 5 if Kintzler ends up still resigning so you wouldn't need to have a 37 year old pitcher who's had arm trouble anyways pitching 3 straight games and 6 times in 8 games.

Mets start a 4 game series in Atlanta on Thursday night while the Nats have Thursday off as a travel day to the West Coast and they’ll begin a weekend series in LA against the Dodgers on Friday night. Clayton Kershaw (1-2, 1.73) starts for the Dodgers against Max Scherzer (3-1, 1.33) in what looks like a fantastic pitcher’s duel on Friday evening, with game time scheduled for 10:10. In east action on Thursday, Pirates play the Phillies, and the Marlins head to Milwaukee to play the Brewers. All of those series (including the Mets/Braves) are 4 game series so these series will continue throughout the weekend.

NL East appears much stronger than either of us realized, in retrospect.
