Too bad that Braves series was a disaster. And Bautista, your team is 17-23, down 8-4 in the 8th inning of game 4. Just drop the bat, and round the bases! Sure, I know the season and this season has been frustrating but play baseball. And not very smart by Pillar either.

May 8: Indians 2 @ Jays 4. Edwin had 2 hits in his return to the Rogers Centre, but the Jays got 2 runs each in the 2nd & 3rd which hung on
May 9: Indians 6 @ Blue Jays 0. Carlos Carassco had a 3 hit, 7 inning shut out.
May 10: Indians 7 @ Jays 8. Goins went 3-4 including the game winning hit in the 9th as the Jays erased deficits of 0-2 and 3-7 for the comeback.
May 11: Mariners 2 @ jays 7. Smoak had 4 RBI's and the Jays blew it open with a 5 run 5th inning
Friday: Mariners 0 @ Jays 4. Travis & Bautista had 2 RBI's for each
Saturday: Mariners 2 @ Jays 7. Morales & Bautista homered and the Jays final run came on a double steal with Travis stealing home.
Sunday: Mariners 2 @ Jays 3. 4 of the 5 runs came on homers: Smoak with a 2 run homer, Jarrod Dyson tied the game for the Mariners with a solo homer in the 7th and Pillar completed the sweep with a walk off
Monday: Braves 10 @ Jays 6. Freddie Freeman and Nick Markakis each had 3 RBI's for the Braves
Tuesday: Braves 9 @ Jays 5. Braves pounded out 15 hits and Matt Kemp had 4 RBI's as they swept the 2 games in Toronto.
Wednesday: Jays 4 @ Braves 8. Braves scored 6 in the first inning and that would be all they would need.
Thursday: Jays 9 @ Braves 0. Marcus Stroman launched his first career home run to become the first Jays pitcher to hit a home run since Mark Hendrickson did so in Montreal in 2003. Stroman and catcher Luke Maile became the first AL battery to both have their first home runs of the season in the same game against an NL team. Jays scored 3 times in the first inning which included Bautista who got on with an expected hit by pitch, though Teheran missed him on the first pitch, so don't know why he had to hit him again on the very next pitch.

3 game weekend series in Baltimore starts on Friday: Chris Tillman (1-0, 2.89) takes the ball for the Orioles who come in losers of 6 of 7 and he'll be opposed by Aaron Sanchez (0-1, 2.95) who is coming off the DL to start for the Jays, Kevin Gausman (2-3, 7.19) and Mike Bolsinger (0-2, 6.10) will square off against each other on Saturday, and Marco Estrada (2-2, 3.60) and Wade Miley (1-1, 3.02) are the scheduled hurlers for Sunday's game. All 3 games have different start times: 7:05 Friday, 7:35 Saturday, 1:35 Sunday. Braves stay at home and the Nationals will pay a visit to SunTrust park for 3 games over the weekend.

Default 19-26

Friday: Jays 3 @ Orioles 5. Wellington Castillo had 2 home runs, the first one in the 6th with the Orioles trailing 3-1 which tied the game, and the second one in the 10th with 2 outs following a Mark Trumbo single to win the game.
Saturday: Jays 5 @ Orioles 7. Smoak and Bautista homered to erase a 4-1 deficit to give them a 5-4 lead after 6 and a half, but in the bottom of the 7th Castillo had the game winning hit again with a 3 run homer.
Sunday: Jays 3 @ Orioles 1. With 2 outs in the first, Morales reached on an error which O's 2b Jonathan Schoop bobbled, Smoak followed with a single, and Devin Travis followed that with a 3 run homer which is all Marco Estrada needed as the only run he allowed was a solo home run to Adam Jones.

Orioles stay on the road and head to Milwaukee for a quick 2 game series against the Brewers starting Tuesday. Jimmy Nelson (2-2, 3.86) starts for the Brewers on Tuesday against Joe Biagini (1-2, 3.41), and Wednesday will see Marcus Stroman (4-2, 3.00) vs. Matt Garza (2-0, 2.43). Tuesday's game starts at 7:40 and Wednesday's starts at 1:10. Orioles will stay at home to play a 3 game series with the Twins starting Monday night.

Nice end to the 4-3 road trip (which started 1-3) after a 6-3 home stand. They now go home for 10 straight games (seems like every one of their games in May have been on the road) and should get Tulo & Donaldson back from the DL prior to Friday's game vs. Texas. Notice the key word is should that I put in bold because Donaldson was back for what, a game and a half before he reinjured his quad and Tulo was supposed to be back about a week-10 days ago and his return got delayed. The Yankees & Orioles especially have dropped back to the pack in the AL, and the Red Sox still can't score any runs, so for all the injuries and roster transactions this team has had to do (rookie Anthony Alford, who recorded his first major league hit in the Tuesday game fractured his hamate bone later in the game and was the 16th player the Jays have placed on the disabled list so far this year and it's not even the end of May ) and yet this 10-6 stretch the last 16 games have gotten them right back in the race with 2 very important offensive key pieces due back by the end of the weekend if not as soon as Friday. Hopefully I don't jinx this, but they are due for some health luck here, and I'm sensing good things are on the Horizon in the 6ix.

Tuesday: Jays 4 @ Brewers 3. Ryan Goins, who came into the game in like an 0-27 or 1-27 slump put the Jays on the board in the 2nd. Joe Biagini allowed all 3 Brewers runs in the 5th, but 4 relievers held onto the 1 run lead.
Wednesday: Jays 8 @ Brewers 4. Pillar & Bautista homered in the 4th to put the Jays in front to stay after a Keon Broxton homer in the 2nd for the Brewers. Devin Travis and Goins homered in a 5 run 6th (Goins was a grand slam) to put them in front 8-1, and after getting recalled from AAA Buffalo after Alford went on the DL with the hamate bone injury, Dwight Smith also recorded his first career major league hit doubling in the 9th, however it's probably not going to be a very long stay as he'll probably be one of the players sent down when Tulo or Donaldson are activated this weekend.

Jays have Thursday off before heading north of the border to begin a 10 game home stand beginning with 3 with the Rangers on Friday, 3 with the Reds next week, before finishing with 4 against the Yankees next weekend. Mike Bolsinger (0-2, 6.32) starts for the Jays Friday against A.J. Griffin (4-1, 5.02), Marco Estrada (3-2, 3.30) faces Yu Darvish (5-2, 2.83) on Saturday, and the series finale Sunday has Andrew Cashner (1-4, 3.18) and Joe Biagini (1-2, 3.75) facing off. Friday's game begins at 7:07, Saturday & Sunday matchups are at 1:07. Brewers stay in Milwaukee and will face the NL leading wildcard Arizona Diamondbacks in a 4 game weekend series which begins on Thursday night.

Good series for the Jays. Last time the Blue Jays swept the Brewers was 2014 in a two game series at home in Toronto after sweeping the Tampa Bay Rays in a three game series at home.

Default 23-27

Keep on trucking! Would have been nice to get all 3 but another series win!

Friday: Rangers 6 @ Jays 7. As expected and correctly predicted in this space, the Jays reinstated both Tulo & Donaldson from the DL prior to the game. Donaldson went 1-4 while Tulo reached base 3 times in 4 plate appearances scoring a run. Travis accounted for 5 of the 7 runs with a 2nd inning grand slam, and scoring on a wild pitch while Smoak & Morales added the other 2 runs each with a solo home run.
Saturday: Rangers 1 @ Jays 3. All 4 runs came on homers. Shin-Soo Choo took the first pitch of the game from Marco Estrada over the wall in center, while Bats got the Blue Jays 3 with a 3 run blast to left-center in the 5th.
Sunday: Rangers 3 @ Jays 1. Elvis Andrus finished 3-5 for the Rangers scoring 2 of the 3 Rangers runs with the other run coming on a Joey Gallo homer as the Rangers snapped a 5 game losing streak in the process ending the Jays 5 game winning streak.

Jays continue a 10 game home stand as the Reds come in for a 3 game interleague series starting Monday. Lisalverto Bonilla (0-2, 6.17) starts for the Reds against Marcus Stroman (5-2, 3.30) Monday, T.J. House (0-0, 3.38 last season) will make his first start of the season against Asher Wojciechowski (1-0, 2.25) Tuesday, and Mike Bolsinger (0-2, 5.75) will face Tim Adelman (3-2, 4.95) in the season finale Wednesday. Monday & Tuesday's game starts at 7:07, while Wednesday's game starts at 12:37. Rangers will head home off a 3-6 road trip for 3 games against the Rays beginning on Monday evening.

They've been playing good ball since the end of April. Hope it continues. If they keep winning series, they'll peck their way into the playoff picture by the All-Star break.

Reds 4 @ Jays 5

Jays survived a nervous 9th and hung on to beat Cincinnati and complete a 3-game sweep. 2B Devon Travis and C Luke Maile each hit 2-run shots to lead Toronto. Joey Votto hit one for the Reds.

An 18-10 month of May certainly helped mitigate the near-disastrous 8-17 April. There are several reasons for the turnaround but the main one is they've started doing what they usually do: clobber home runs. They hit 49 in the month. The bullpen has been terrific and some of the wounded are back: Donaldson, Tulowitzki and Happ most recently. It's hoped Liriano will be good to go on his next scheduled start and hopefully, Aaron Sanchez will be back sometime this month.

The Jays surge to respectability will be put to a stiff test starting tonight, when the Bronx Bombers come to the Six for a 4-game set. Marco Estrada will take the hill for Toronto while the Yankees counter with C.C. Sabathia.

Monday: Reds 2 @ Jays 17. Everyone in the starting lineup minus Pillar recorded at least 1 hit, and everyone in the starting lineup including Pillar scored at least 1 run
Tuesday: Reds 4 @ Jays 6. All 6 Jays runs came via the long ball, including Morales' home run in the 8th which ended up being the game winner.
Wednesday: Reds 4 @ Jays 5. Joey Votto homer in the first extended the Reds streak of scoring in the first inning for their 6th straight game, their most since 1999. Backup catcher Luke Maile (Martin was playing third) has only 5 hits on the season, but his second homer of the year tied the game at 3 in the 5th, and Travis homered in the 7th to put them in front for good. Reds made it interesting in the 9th with Scott Schebler's NL leading 16th home run cut it to 1, and a base hit, error, and stolen base put Reds at 2nd & third with only 1 out, but Osuna had strikeouts of Billy Hamilton & Zach Cozart to sweep the Reds out of Toronto. Also, the Jays on Wednesday became the first AL team to draw 1 million fans, way to go!

4 game series with the AL East leading Yankees begins on Thursday in Toronto. Marco Estrada (4-2, 3.15) starts for the Jays against C.C. Sabathia (5-2, 4.42) on Thursday, Francisco Liriano (2-2, 6.35) will come off the DL to start Friday against Michael Pineda (6-2, 3.32), Jordan Montgomery (2-4, 4.11) takes the ball for the Yankees against Joe Biagini (1-3, 3.64) on Saturday and Luis Severino (4-2, 2.93) squares off against Marcus Stroman (6-2, 3.38) in the series finale Sunday. Thursday & Friday games begin at 7:07 while Saturday & Sunday will go at 1:07. Reds have Thursday off and head home to start a 3 game series with the Braves beginning on Friday.

They didn't lose any ground, but they didn't gain any ground either. At this point not losing any ground is probably better than making up ground, so in that case I'll consider the split of the series a success.

Thursday: Yankees 13 @ Jays 2. Gary Sanchez had 2 home runs and Aaron Hicks had 6 RBI's as the Yankees knocked out Marco Estrada in the 4th inning running away with the opener
Friday: Yankees 5 @ Jays 7. Donaldson pounded out 2 solo home runs, and Justin Smoak had a homer and 3 RBI's as the Jays held off a late Yankees charge to even the series at 1.
Saturday: Yankees 7 @ Jays 0. The Jays were still in this as it was a 3-0 game heading into the 8th and John Gibbons went and handed the ball to Jason Grilli. That turned into a complete disaster as Grilli allowed a leadoff homer to Brett Gardner, retired 2 straight batters than allowed back-to-back-to-back homers to Matt Holliday, Starlin Castro and Didi Gregorius for the final margin. I'd have to double check Grilli's stats but that's probably the first time in his career he has ever allowed 4 home runs in an inning. Some days you are the windshield, sometimes you are the bug, unfortunately for Grilli this inning he was the bug.
Sunday: Yankees 2 @ Jays 3. Smoak 2 run homer in the 6th tied the game at 2, and than Donaldson won it in the 8th with a solo home run.

6 game West coast trip on tap for this coming week starting with 3 games in Oakland. J.A. Happ (0-3, 4.50) starts against Sean Manaea (4-3, 3.91) on Monday, Jesse Hahn (1-4, 3.81) will be activated off the DL prior to Tuesday's game to start for the A's against Marco Estrada (4-3, 3.86), and Francisco Liriano (3-2, 5.94) starts for the Jays against Andrew Triggs (5-5, 3.86) on Wednesday in the series finale. Monday & Tuesday night games are at 10:05 and Wednesday is an afternoon affair at 3:35. Yankees head home to the Bronx to welcome in the Bahston Red Sawks for 3 games beginning on Tuesday after each team takes a breather on Monday. Good news for the Jays: Take care of business, and they are guaranteed to make up games on someone either the Yankees in the division or the Red Sox in the Wildcard!
