Default 8-13

Padres 4 @ D'Backs 1.

4 outs from history! Maybe Tyson Ross gives up a hit in the 9th as he was laboring there in the 8th at close to, if not above 115 pitches, but that’s a ball that Franchy Cordero has to catch. Long run yes, but statcast says that’s a ball that should get caught 99% of the time and with a no hitter that’s got to get caught. At least he homered, so the good along with the bad. Christian Walker had that lone D’Backs hit, the aforementioned shot to center that Cordero misplayed which scored Deven Marrero. Matt Koch allowed 1 run on 2 hits (1 homer) with 2 walks and 4 strikeouts in 6 innings while Brad Boxberger (0-2) allowed 1 run on 3 hits as all 3 batters he faced reached base. Cordero & Christian Villanueva each had an RBI and a run scored, while Wil Myers & Eric Hosmer scored the only 2 runs with 2 runs scoring on errors so no RBI’s. Ross allowed 1 run on 1 hit with 3 walks and 10 strikeouts in 7.2 and Brad Hand (1-2) had a walk and 4 strikeouts in 1.1 hitless innings. In other West scores on Friday: Dodgers lose to the Nationals 2-5, Rockies get blown out by the Cubs 5-16, while the Giants beat the Angels 8-1. That leaves the D’Backs still in first at 13-6, 3 up on the 11-10 Rockies, 8-10 Dodgers are 4.5 back, Giants at 8-11 at 5 back, and the Padres at 8-13 are 6 back. The series continues on Saturday: Clayton Richard (1-1, 5,73) starts for the Padres opposed by Zack Godley (2-1, 3.00), with game time scheduled for 8:10.

Coming off the 3 "home" games in Monterrey where they got no hit by the Dodgers in the opener but followed that up with 2 wins to close that series they went 3-4 this past week against the Nats & Cards. They'll conclude the home stand with a 2 game set against the Rockies, the 12th time already this year in 44 games they'll see the Rockies. After Tuesday's game they'll have 118 games remaining and they'll only play the Rockies 7 of those 118 times. After the Rockies leave they'll have a travel day to Pittsburgh Wednesday before opening a 4 game series Thursday night against the Pirates.

Good week for the Padres as they finished the week 4-2 splitting with the Rockies, and than won 3 out of 4 in Pittsburgh (3 straight after losing the opener Thursday night) against a Pirates team that was in first place coming into the series.

Another 6 game week upcoming as they head to Washington for 3 against the Nats starting Monday, have a travel day to fly back to the West Coast Thursday, and than play 3 games at Chavez Ravine against the Dodgers.

Pads followed up a good week with not a great week. Lost 2 of 3 in Washington, 2 of 3 in LA, and started the first game of a 4 game series against the Marlins with a loss. 3 more games with the Marlins, and than 3 games against the Reds as they get the 2 worst teams in the NL (by record anyways), so hopefully they can rack up a 5-2 or 6-1 week and stay in the West race.
