I watched a bunch of the games. I really like the fact that the little league world series invites numerous countries to participate. MLB could learn a lesson from the little guys.

That's because there are Little Leagues around the world that can actually compete with U.S. teams. Not the case with Major League Baseball.

LLWS is a tournament. MLB is a professional league. Not exactly the same thing. The World Baseball Classic is perhaps what you're looking for.
The only knock I have on the LLWS is that the US is guaranteed a team in the final - not exactly "worldly". Albeit we'd have a pretty good chance regardless given the amount of top teams that can be fielded.

It wasn't always that way. I think the tournament format changed when Little League started enforcing the player eligibility rules on the Pacific teams. They were disregarding rules about age and geographic eligibility.
The Japan team won this year. Is it true they gather talent from all around Japan to form one team? Seems like that would be a huge advantage when the US team in the finals was from one area of the country. Granted they probably are the best players within that area. But if the US created 1 team from all 50 states I'm sure it would be a much deeper talented team.

That was the case for a long time, but Williamsport finally started enforcing the geographic eligibility rules on the Pacific teams. I think that coincided with the format change that ends with a U.S. team playing a team from somewhere else.
