They rebounded to win 2 of 3 in Houston but they one they lost (Sunday) will sting for a while, and a sour note on what was otherwise a decent showing after the complete $#!t show in Minnesota to open the season. Back and forth game saw Brandon Moss homer in the 9th to give the Royals the lead, Jake Marisnick homered in the bottom half off of Herrera and then Strahm walked 3 in the 12th including the winning run with 2 outs. Saturday's game saw them come back from 2-1 down to score 6 runs in the 8th to win 7-3. They gave up 2 more in the 7th Sunday (nothing on Saturday) so now the 7th inning run differential is -17. At this rate they won't get a positive run differential for that inning until June! Salvy homered for the 4th straight game in Sunday's season finale.

They head to KC for the season opener at Kauffman stadium when the A's will come to town. Ian Kennedy (0-1, 5.40) starts for KC and he'll be opposed by the A's Jharel Cotton (0-1, 10.38) with a 4:15 start time. Off day Tuesday before the series concludes Wednesday & Thursday with 8:15 starts: Andrew Triggs (1-0, 0.00) for the A's vs. Jason Hammel (0-0, 5.40) for the Royals Wednesday and Jesse Hahn (0-0, 3.00) vs. Jason Vargas (1-0, 1.50) on Thursday evening.

Default 3-6

Monday: Kris Davis homered into the win and just got over Cain's reach for a 2 run homer for the only runs of the game in a 2-0 A's win for the season opener at the K.
Wednesday: A's scored all 8 runs from the 3rd-6th innings to back starter Andrew Triggs who pitched 6 innings of shutout ball with 4 hits as the A's win 8-3
Thursday: RBI singles from Cain & Salvy in the first was all Jason Vargas would need as he pitched into the 8th inning as the Royals salvage a game in the series and stop Oakland's 8 game winning streak in the series: The final 6 games last season and the first 2 this year as the Royals win 3-1.

Royals will be facing their 3rd straight AL West team as the LA Angels come to the K for a weekend series. Jose Ramirez (2-0, 5.40) for the Angels and Danny Duffy (1-0, 2.08) for the Royals on Friday, Matt Shoemaker (0-0, 7.71) for the Angels vs. Nate Karns (0-0, 7.11) for the Royals on Saturday while Ian Kennedy (0-2, 4.09) and Tyler Skaggs (0-1, 8.71) will close out the series on Sunday. Friday night starts at 8:15, Saturday starts at 7:15, while Sunday starts at 2:15

Default 6-6

Friday: Angels 1 @ Royals 7. Moustakas & Salvy each had 2 RBI's as they erased an early 1-0 first inning deficit to score the final 7 runs of the game
Saturday: Angels 2 @ Royals 3. Joakim Soria struck out Albert Pujols with the bases loaded in a 2-2 and an inning later Moustakas had a home run which ended up being the game winner.
Sunday: Angels 0 @ Royals 1. Both starters were outstanding! Angels starter Tyler Skaggs and Roya starter Ian Kennedy combined to allow only 6 hits, 4 walks, and 19 strike outs over 15 scores innings pitched. The only run came in the 9th on an Alcides Escobar single for the walk off and the Royals sweep.

Royals are off Monday before the Giants come into the K for a quick 2 game interleague series, a rematch of the 2014 World Series. Jason Hammel (0-1, 6.52) gets the ball for the Royals against Matt Cain (1-0, 4.82), while Madison Bumgarner (0-2, 3.43) starts for the Giants against Jason Vargas (2-0, 0.66) on Wednesday. Both games start at 8:15.

Default 7-7

Tuesday: Giants 2 @ Royals 1 (11 innings). Whit Merrifield homered in his first game back from AAA Omaha, but Joe Panik accounted for both Giants run scoring the game tying run in the 6th on Hunter Pence's single and won the game in the 11th with an RBI single.
Wednesday: Giants 0 @ Royals 2. Moose infield single in the 5th and Salvy single in the 8th was all Jason Vargas needed as he continues his stellar season so far. He's allowed only 1 run and 14 hits through 19 2/3 innings with a 23-1 strikeout to walk ratio.

4 game series in Texas against the Rangers starts on Thursday: Danny Duffy (2-0, 1.80) for the Royals and Andrew Cashner (0-1, 5.06) pitching matchup for Thursday, Cole Hamels (0-0, 3.50) takes the ball for the Rangers on Friday against Nate Karns (0-0, 4.38), AJ Griffin (2-0, 4.11) starts for the Rangers Saturday, while the Royals give the ball to Ian Kennedy (0-2, 2.37), and Jason Hammel (0-1, 4.60) starts the series finale Sunday afternoon against Yu Darvish (1-2, 3.28). Thursday, Friday & Saturday night games begin at 8:05, while Sunday's series finale starts at 3:05.

Default 7-11

What a lost weekend in Texas, as the offense, as has been the case for the whole week failed to show up. They got lucky the final 2 games of last weekend vs. the Angels and the mini 2 game series against the Giants mid week where 2 & 3 runs were good enough to win, unfortunately that wasn't the case in Arlington, and probably won't be the case the majority of the season. I've said this time & time again whether you have a starting rotation of Clayton Kershaw, Madison Bumgarner, Chris Sale, Max Scherzer & Noah Syndergaard with a bullpen with Herrerra, Wade Davis, and in in their prime Mariano Rivera & Trevor Hoffman, if you have an offense that can't score runs, what's the point of having all those great pitchers?? So, you can set a record for most 1-0, 2-0 and 2-1 games lost??
Thursday: Royals 0 @ Rangers 1 (13 innings). Delino Deshields RBI single in the 13th was the lone run of the game. Royals managed only 4 hits in 13 innings, and only had 2 base runners from the 7th inning on, obviously that's not a recipe for winning games!
Friday: Royals 2 @ Rangers 6. Robinson Chirinos and Joey Gallo each had 2 homers off of starter Nate Karns who failed to last 5 innings
Saturday: Royals 1 @ Rangers 2. Rougned Odor made a loser out of Travis Wood for the 2nd time in 3 games this series as he lead off the 9th with a single, stole second, and than scored on an Elvis Andrus single off of Peter Moylan.
Sunday: Royals 2 @ Rangers 5. Moose & Jorge Bonifacio had back-to-back homers in the 3rd, but aside from that it was another futile effort offensively as aside from those 2 homers they didn't get a single base runner passed first base . Gallo & Chrinos each added home runs for the Rangers.

3 game series on the South Side of Chicago starts on Monday and concludes Wednesday. Monday's pitching matchup is Jason Vargas (3-0, 0.44) for the Royals against Miguel Gonzalez (2-0, 2.84) for the White Sox, Dylan Covey (0-1, 7.84) starts for the Chi Sox on Tuesday against Danny Duffy (2-0, 1.32), while Jose Quintana (0-4, 6.17) and Nate Karns (0-1, 6.35) will take the ball in the series finale on Wednesday in a matchup of 2 struggling starting pitchers. Monday's and Tuesday games are at 8:10, Wednesday is a day time matinee at 2:10. This is their first series against a divisional opponent since the opening series against the Twins, hopefully this one goes a lot better than that Twins series went! Rangers stay at home and welcome the Twins in for a 3 game series beginning on Monday night.

I'll have a recap before I leave for vacation tomorrow, but they got swept by the White Sox and finished 0-7 on the road trip through Texas & Chicago, really not a good look!

Default 8-16

April 24: Royals 1 @ White Sox. Vargas only allowed 4 runs (3 earned) in 5 innings, but the bullpen imploded in the 6th allowing 8 runs for the Chi Sox to cruise to victory
April 25: Royals 5 @ White Sox 10. They lead 1-0 after the top of the first and were tied at 2 after the top of the 3 before 8 unanswered White Sox runs lead to another runaway Chi Sox victory, but at least they had a 3 spot in the 9th to break an 8 game losing streak recording 3 runs or fewer.
Wednesday: Royals 2 @ White Sox 5. Avasail Garcia had a 2 run homer in the 6th which broke a 2-2 tie and then Leury Garcia finished the scoring in the 7th with a solo homer to complete the sweep and drop the Royals to 0-6 in the division.
Friday: Twins 6 @ Royals 4. Miguel Sano and Joe Mauer each had 2 run doubles in the 8th to erase a 4-2 deficit to hand the Royals to their 8th straight loss.
Saturday: Twins 0 @ Royals 0. Postponed to be played as a part of a day-night double header in July. At least they didn't lose!
Sunday: Twins 7 @ Royals 4. Salvy & Brandon Moss each had doubles in the 2nd which staked the Royals out to a 2-0 lead. Sano homered in the 3rd to put the Twins in front to stay 3-2, and Sano would add 2 more RBI's on the day with run RBI singles in the 4th and 6th. Lorenzo Cain had his first home run of the year in the losing effort.
Monday: White Sox 1 @ Royals 6. Jorge Bonifacio put the Royals in front 2-1 with a 2 run homer in the 4th after the White Sox took a lead in the first, Salvy added a 2 run single in the 5th, and Hosmer finished the scoring with his second homer of the year in the 7th. It only took until May 1 but they finally won their first game against a divisional opponent after 8 straight losses. Well done guys .

The 4 game series with the White Sox continues through Thursday:
Tonight Danny Duffy (2-1, 2.81) vs. Jose Quintana (1-4, 5.22), tomorrow, Mike Pelfrey (0-1, 5.00) vs. Nate Karns (0-2, 6.26) on Wednesday, and Ian Kennedy (0-2, 2.30) vs. Derek Holland (2-2, 2.17) on Thursday. 8:15 for the start times tonight & Wednesday while the getaway game Thursday will begin at 2:15.

This is a group that needs to come back, and come back strong. A lot of indecision at the top of the AL Central right now.

Default 9-18

Looking through the stats this might be one of the worst offensive teams I remember. Just last week the Nationals scored 77 runs while the Royals the entire month of April only finished with 63 runs scored. Granted, the Nats padded those stats with 4 games in Coors Field, and a 23 run outburst where they got 4 runs off a 3rd string catcher pitching his second inning but that's terrible. Currently heading into the first weekend of May they are the only team in baseball that has yet to reach 100 runs scored...........and they aren't even close to reaching 100 as they don't even have 80! The Nats got to 77 in 7 games (and in 1 of the games only scored 3) and the Royals are heading into game 27 at 78 runs scored, so at least the 3 run "outburst" in the last 3 innings of today's game got them past the Nats week total. That's embarrassing! Also to note: Of the 78 season runs they got 6 twice this week against the White Sox and than they put up a 7 spot twice this year (against the Astros & Angels I believe) meaning almost 35% of their total runs ON THE SEASON took place in just 4 games. No wonder this team is tied with the Blue Jays for worst record in baseball (and at least the Jays have a legitimate reason for being bad: they have almost half the team either battling nagging injuries or currently on the DL with injuries).

Tuesday: White Sox 6 @ Royals 0. For the second time in a week, Duffy got lit up by the Chi Sox allowing 6 runs.
Wednesday: White Sox 1 @ Royals 6. Nate Karns was splendid allowing only a single hit in 6 innings of work.
Thursday: White Sox 8 @ Royals 3. Royals starter Ian Kennedy currently their 2nd best starting pitcher left in the 5th inning with a grade 1 hamstring strain and is likely heading for a trip on the DL.

White Sox head to Baltimore for a 3 game set with the Orioles beginning on Friday while the Royals stay at home and welcome the AL champs the Indians into the K for the first time this year. Danny Salazar (2-2, 4.34) starts for Cleveland against Jason Hammel (03, 6.65) on Friday, Josh Tomlin () goes for the Tribe Saturday against Jason Vargas (4-1, 1.42), and Danny Duffy (2-2, 3.89) starts against Trevor Bauer (2-3, 7.67) in the series finale Sunday.
