Yikes, those are some scary numbers. Hopefully the Rox can keep riding this wave and win the series in SF.

They're light years ahead of where I thought they'd be at this point in the season, so kudos to Weiss.

A win on the road over the San Francisco Giants. It's been a while since that happened. Mike posted those numbers a couple days ago. I knew it was bad, but I didn't know it was that bad. This season the Rox appear to be a much more tenacious group. On the season they are 4-4 vs the Giants. The team has slugged it out to an 11-10 record in May and is 11-12 on the road this season. May is usually a bad month for this team, so to be above .500 in May alone is a sing of improvement. To be only one game below .500 on the road is also a pretty significant improvement.

I am very much enjoying this from the Rockies. Before the season I was a pretty harsh critic about this team's chances this season. The team is definitely better than I expected them to be. I'm not going to say they're for real just yet. Instead I'm just going to enjoy this competitive play while it lasts.

Go Rockies!

Un-freaking-believable.

Rox blew a 4 run lead, giving up 3 hits AND 3 walks in the 6th inning. Even walked in a run. Misplayed two fly balls too.

Went to the tenth inning. Tulo hits a HR to give the Rox a 1 run lead, 5-4. All we have to do is hold them.

Bottom of the 10th the Rox bring in Betancourt....and you can guess the rest. Issued a lead-off walk, who gets bunted over the second, then Angel Pagan hits an INSIDE THE PARK HR off the right field wall to win the game 6-5 for the Giants. Yuck.

The Rox drop 2 of 3 in SF this weekend, but IMO should've won 2 of 3 save for blowing TWO leads on Saturday, as explained in the prior posting.

Standings now after 50 games are below:

Arizona Diamondbacks 28 22 .560 --
San Francisco Giants 28 22 .560 --
Colorado Rockies 27 23 .540 1.0

This must be how it feels to play golf.....so near....so far......

12 innings
13 hits
15 runners left on base
striking out on pitches in the dirt.

Lose 3-2 in 12 innings to the second worst team in all of baseball

Rox now 27-24

Another horrible way to lose. Cuddyer was so close, yet so far.

Default Houston, we have a problem.....

The season is now 1/3 over (54 games played out of 162); amazing how fast a season can go by.

Our Rox lost 3 of 4 to the second worst team in baseball (Houston), scoring only 12 runs in 4 games.

Now just two games above even at 28-26 or .519 and 2.5 games behind AZ.

Giving away leads with what seems to be poor pitching does not bode well for the rest of the season.

Well, the Rockies will wrap up the month of May on a three game skid and sitting at a 28-27 record overall. They lost 3 of 4 to the worst team in baseball, then lost one to the hated Dodgers last night. This team needs to take a deep breath and hit refresh because May is over. May is always a lousy month for the Rockies and they got out of it still sitting over .500. During this skid, the pitching has still be solid, it's the offense that has gone quiet. These things happen in a baseball season. It ebbs and flows.

Tonight is a chance to open a new chapter on the season. I can't think of a better opponent against whom to do it.

That game last night, where they lost 7-5 to the Dodgers in ten innings, had me screaming. Again. For the same reason: Betancourt.

In the bottom of the 9th, the Rox were behind 5-3, with one out, one on base and Helton batting. Helton, who'd been the target of a "time to retire" article in a local paper earlier that day, promptly slammed a pitch into the second deck for a game tying home run. Crowd went wild. So the inning ends with scored tied at 5-5 and I click off to watch another channel so I can avoid 2 minutes of commercials.

I come back to the game, and it's the top of the 10th, Dodgers at bat. When I saw what was happening I just groaned. My "favorite" reliever, Betancourt, was on the mound, having given up a single to the Dodger's lead-off batter. I turned to the wife and said: "Oh No, Betancourt's going to do it again, going to blow another game, he let another lead off batter reach base, and in extra innings it almost always is what beats you. If you're a reliever, tied score, extra innings, you NEVER let the lead-off hitter reach base." Well, Betancourt did his thing, giving up not one, but TWO runs.

The Rockies are 28-27, but only 2.5 games out of first as the NL West is the weakest division in the NL. If we were in the NL Central we'd be sucking wind in 4th place, 8 games out.
