And somebody named Lamb, with 1 HR this year, hits a grand slam off Ottavino.

Christian Bergman had a no-hitter into the 5th, going 5.1 innings with only 1 run, 2 hits, 5 BBs and 5 Ks. He was followed by Christian Friedrich who goes 1.2 innings with no runs, no hits, no walks and 2 Ks. That's 7 full innings of excellent pitching and should've been enough to win almost any game.

As you noted, Wrecks Brothers started off the 8th with 3 straight walks - how dysfunctional can a pitcher get?

Ottavino got the call and almost got out of the jam. He got two outs, but served up that Grand Slam to Jake Lamb (a 23-year-old rookie) with a .204 batting average who hit a 420-foot HR to make it 5-2 AZ. The look of failure and misery on Walt Weiss' face was heartbreaking. The game ended 5-2.

Rox are now 53-81 at .396, 22.5 out of first place, have lost 4 straight and are tied with Texas for the worst record in MLB. It's becoming more likely that our team will lose 100 games this season. A finish at 62-100 means a .383 record, not out of the realm of possibility. Remains to be seen if any help or hope arrives when the September call-up comes around.

The Diamondbacks take 2 of 3 from the Rockies this weekend. Rox 2-5 on this road trip, scoring only 12 runs in 7 games, or 1.7 runs per game. Having 3 main bats out of the lineup is killing them.

The Rox won Saturday night 2-0, with Tyler Matzek going 7 innings, no runs, 3 hits, 3 walks, 4 Ks and earning the win to make his record 4-9. Three pitchers got a HLD and LaTroy Hawkins got Save #22.

Today's game was 6-2 AZ with Jorge DeLaRose giving up 4 runs to be tagged with the loss, now 13-10. Jorge is now 0-7 in the AZ stadium.

Rockies are 54-82 at .387 and 22.5 out of first.

Season is 84% or 5/6 over. Rox have played 136 games, have 26 left and right now I'm sure all the team wants is for 2014's agony to end.

Monday (Labor Day, 01 Sept) the Rockies host the SF Giants for 1.5 games. The afternoon opens as the teams complete a game suspended back on 22 May. A number of players from that game are either on the DL or have been traded.

Default Extremes R Us

Rockies won 2 of 3 from the Giants these past 3 days, and dropped a partial game that was a continuation of a suspended game from 22 May.

The 3 games were marked by extremes.

Buster Posey continued terrorizing Rockies pitching by going 8 for 13 with 1HR, 7 RBIs, scoring 5 runs with no BBs or Ks.

In Monday's game, the Rox pulled one of their classic come from behind victories. They were down 7-2 at the end of 5 but scored 4 in the 6th to make it 7-6 SF. They scored 3 more in the 7th to make it 9-7 Rockies. In the top of the 9th, the usual great work by LaTroy Hawkins vanished as he gave up 2 quick runs to make it a 9-9 tie before getting 3 outs. But in the bottom of the 9th Charlie Blackmon slapped a single to right field, scoring the 10th run for the walkoff win. Sergio Romo got the loss and is now 5-4. Hawkins got both his 2nd blown save but also the win to make him 3-2.

In Tuesday's game, the Rox pulled one of their classic pitching meltdowns. Ahead 7-1 after 5 innings the pitching staff went off to fantasyland and gave up 11 runs in the next 3 innings. Extreme indeed.

In today's afternoon game, the Rox just plain won the game, 9-2, scoring 4 runs each in the 5th and 6th innings. The old Rox showed up, hitting 4 HRs (Dickerson had 2 HRs and 1 apiece for Arenado and McKenry.

We're now 56-84 at .400 and 22.0 out of first. There are 140 games down and 22 to go.

Tomorrow is an off day before San Diego comes in for 3 games.

Default Rockies Sweep SD Padres - Win Streak at 4 Games

The team finally had a good set of games, taking all 3 from San Diego by scores of 3-0, 7-6 and 6-0.

Best of all were the two games where the pitching shut out the Padres.

In Friday's 3-0 win, Tyler Matzek turned in a superb full-game performance with 103 pitches, 75 of them strikes, giving up just 3 hits, 1-BB and 6-Ks. His record rises to 5-9 with him improving with every outing. Solo HRs by Stubbs and Arenado sealed the win.

In Saturday's 7-6 win in 12 innings it took TEN Rockies pitchers to get to the final out but they team hung in and got it done. Nick Masset got the win and is now 2-0.

In today's 6-0 win, four Rockies pitchers held SD to 6 hits and no runs. Franklin Morales went 6 innings, giving up just 4 hits, 2-BBs, 6-Ks and no runs to earn the win to make him 6-7 on the season.

Rox are now 59-84, at .413, are 22.0 games out of first and hit the road for 3 games in NY with the Mets starting tomorrow night.

Aren't they 59-84? Tied with Arizona.

Anyway, Rox sweep. Broncos win. A good day in a Denver.

Default Mets Sweep Rockies

After sweeping the Padres, the Rockies got swept 3 games by the Mets in New York.

We're now 59-87, at .404 and 24 games out of first.

Rockies were outscored 7-2 in the series; dreadful to only score 2 runs over 3 games, especially when the Mets only scored 2 1/3 runs per game which usually isn't enough to beat us.

Starting tomorrow (Friday) the Rockies are in St Louis for 3 games where I suspect they'll get clobbered by the Cardinals who are 80-67 and leading the NL Central.

Thank you for alerting me, I've fixed it in the other post. At this point I guess I'm just phoning it in too, like the team itself.
