Searched for an A's thread on the forum, only thing I found was a 2013 thread, so let's start an "official" A's thread. Season opener on Thursday against the Angels. Garrett Richards (0-2, 2.28 in 2017) starting for only the 13th time since the beginning of the 2016 season due to a variety of injuries takes the ball for the Angels, and he will be opposed by Kendall Graveman (6-4, 4.19) who starts for the A's. Game time slated for 4:05 (1:05 local time) but since I will be updating this thread from the East Coast, I'll always put game times in Eastern time.

Snagged my first ever foul ball at Hohokam a few weeks back and met Vida Blue. I'm a Tigers fan but the A's have provided a lot of fun baseball memories as of late.

Which means we A's fans will get the first look at Ohtani. He batted only .125 in 32 at bats in the Spring, so I don't know if they will try and use him as a hitter or not. He is scheduled to take the mound in Sunday's game.

Looking forward to seeing what the two Matts on the infield corners can do this year.

Default 1-0

Angels 5 @ A's 6 (11 innings).

Bad loss for the Angels and a great win for the A's who were down 4-0 heading into the middle innings, only to tie it up and see the Angels take the lead right back before rallying to tie and win late. They are probably still a year or 2 away from competing, so many not see many moments of these this year, so enjoy them while you can, and this was a game to enjoy! Andrellton Simmons single and a Martin Maldonado double in the 2nd put the Angels up 2-0 and also in that inning Shohei Ohtani singled for his first major league hit. Kole Calhoun homer (4th) and Zack Cozart homer (5th) gave the Angels the 4-0 lead before the A's started the fight back. Matt Joyce and Marcus Semien walked before Khris Davis had his first homer of the year to cut the deficit to 1, and than Matt Olson went back-to-back to tie the game at 4, but in the next half inning Albert Pujols lead off with a homer to put the Angels back in front which ended Kendall Graveman's day. Davis had the game-tying single in the 7th. Boog Powell tripled with 1 out in the 11th, and following an intentional walk to Matt Joyce, Semien walked off the Angels with a single. Graveman allowed 5 runs on 7 hits (3 homers) in 5+ innings with 0 walks and 1 strikeout and Chris Hatcher (1-0) allowed 2 hits and 2 strikeouts in a scoreless 11th inning and picked up the win. Garrett Richards allowed 4 runs on 7 hits (2 homers) in 5 innings with 3 walks and 4 strikeouts, Blake Wood (1st hold) pitched a hitless 6th inning with a strikeout, Cam Bedrosian (1st blown save) allowed 1 run on 3 hits in 1/3 of an inning and Noe Ramirez (0-1) allowed 1 run on 2 hits with 2 walks and 3 strikeouts in 1.1 innings.

Game 2 of the 4 game series continues on Friday. Sean Manaea (12-10, 4.37 in 2017) starts for the A's against Tyler Skaggs (2-6, 4.55 in '17) for the A's. Game time scheduled for 10:05.

Default 1-1

Angels 2 @ A's 1.

Mike Trout has his first homer of the year in the first and it stayed 1-0 all the way to the 9th inning when Justin Upton scored Trout from first on a single, courtesy of an error by Joyce in LF. The A's got the first 2 batters on in the 9th off of Blake Parker, but Parker got strikeouts from Stephen Piscotty and Matt Chapman before Jonathan LuCroy made it 2-1 on a single, but unfortunately the A's would get none more as Joyce ended the game on a ground out. Sean Manaea (0-1) allowed 1 run on 4 hits (1 homer) with 0 walks and 7 strikeouts in 7.1 innings. Tyler Skaggs (1-0) was just as impressive with 3 hits allowed, 0 walks and 5 strikeouts in 6.1, Blake Wood (2nd hold), and Keynan Middleton (1st hold) allowed 2 hits with 1 strikeout in 1.2 while Parker (1st save) allowed 1 run on 2 hits with a walk and 2 strikeouts in an inning.

The series continues on Saturday afternoon. Matt Shoemaker (6-3, 4.52 in 2017) starts for the Angels and he'll be opposed by Daniel Mengden (7-7, 3.14 in '17). Game time slated for 4:05

Default 1-2

Angels 8 @ A's 3.

Cozart & Trout started the game with a triple and double, but luckily Daniel Mengden left Trout at 2nd to limit the Angels damage in the first. Rene Rivera scored on a Justin Upton fielders choice, and Trout after striking out but reaching first on a wild pitch, scored on a Pujols single. Pujols double in the 5th scored Trout, Cozart had a 2 run double and Trout added an RBI single in the 6th to give the Angels a 7-0 lead. A's started the comeback in the bottom of the 6th after retiring the first 2 batters, Matt Shoemaker sandwiched a double around 2 walks to load the bases and Piscotty made him pay with a single and than Chapman followed with a double to bring the A's to within 4 at 7-3. A's loaded the bases as well in the 7th with 2 outs, but Olson struck out to end that threat which also pretty much ended whatever chance the A's had at a comeback as only 1 other Oakland batter reached base. Andrellton Simmons finished the scoring with a single in the 9th. Shoemaker (1-0) allowed 3 runs on 4 hits with 4 walks and 4 strikeouts in 5.2 innings while Jim Johnson (1st hold) pitched a hitless 1.1 with a walk and 2 strikeouts. Mengden (0-1) allowed 6 runs (5 earned) on 7 hits with 1 walk and 5 strikeouts in 5.2 innings.

Ohtani (ML debut) will make his pitching debut for the Angels on Sunday but made his major league debut as the Angels DH in Thursday's game while the A's will give the ball to Andrew Triggs (5-6, 4.27 in 2017) hoping to come away with a sweep.

Default 1-3

Angels 7 @ A's 4.

Luis Valbuena and Marte had back-to-back RBI doubles in the first to put the Angels up 2-0. Chapman would give the A's the lead in the bottom half with a 3 run homer. That lead would last until the 7th when Trout doubled to tie the score and than Upton gave the Angels the lead for good with a sac fly. The Angels added on the final 3 runs in the 7th on back-to-back singles by Simmons and Calhoun. Piscotty doubled with 1 out in the 9th and the A's got the tying run to the plate later in the inning but LuCroy flied out and Powell lined out to end the game. After winning the opening game of the series on Thursday it was a frustrating final 3 games of the series for the A's, but they did get tying runs to the plate in all 3 games, but couldn't get the tying score. Ohtani (1-0) allowed 3 runs on 3 hits (1 homer) with 1 walk and 6 strikeouts in 6 innings of work in his MLB pitching debut and Keynan Middleton (1st save) allowed 1 walk in 2/3 hitless innings to pick up the save. Daniel Gossett (0-1) allowed 4 runs on 6 hits in 4 innings with 2 walks and 0 strikeouts.

Both teams have home series starting on Monday. The Angels head back to Anaheim for their home opener where they will take on the Cleveland Indians. The A's will stay at home for another 4 game series as they take on another divisional rival in the Texas Rangers. For A's pitcher Bartolo Colon (7-14, 6.48 with the Braves & Twins in 2017) starts for the Rangers while the A's are scheduled to go with Andrew Triggs (5-6, 4.27 in '17). Game time scheduled for 10:05.

Default 2-3

Rangers 1 @ A's 3.

Chapman gave the A’s the early 1-0 lead with a homer in the 3rd inning, but Joey Gallo tied it for the Rangers in the 5th on an RBI single. Jed Lowrie had a 2 out RBI double in the 7th to put the A’s in front 3-1. Blake Treinen working for a 5 out save put the first 2 base runners on in the 9th on a walk and single, and after a ground out from Shin-Soo Choo moved the runners to second and third with 1 out, Treinen ended the game by getting Gallo to pop up in the infield to Chapman, and ended the game getting getting Elvis Andrus to ground out to end it. Bartolo Colon allowed 1 run on 7 hits (1 homer) with 1 walk and 4 strikeouts in 7 innings, Kevin Jepsen (0-1) allowed 2 runs on 1 hit with a walk and a strikeout in 2/3's of an inning. Andrew Triggs allowed 1 run on 4 hits with 2 walks and 7 strikeouts in 5 innings, Chris Hatcher (2-0) allowed 1 hit, 0 walks and 0 strikeouts in 2/3 of an inning while Treinen (1st save) finished it out allowing a walk, strikeout and a base hit in the final 1.2 innings. By the way only 7,416 was the attendance, yikes!

Game 2 of the series goes on Tuesday and will see each team's opening day starter take the hill. For the A's that is Graveman (0-0, 9.00) and for the Rangers that is Cole Hamels (0-1, 4.76). Game time scheduled for 10:05.
