Khris Davis had the only A’s run on the day with a 2 run solo homer in the 3rd with Semien scoring on the Davis homer. Graveman (0-5) didn’t pitch that bad as he only allowed 3 runs on 6 hits but had 4 walks to 7 strikeouts. Both teams have Thursday off before beginning road series on Friday. Rangers head to Canada for 3 games with the Blue Jays after losing 2 of 3 in Arlington earlier this month while the A’s stay in Texas and make their first of 3 visits this season to Houston. Dallas Keuchel (1-3, 3.10) starts for the Astros opposed by Sean Manaea (3-2, 1.23) with first pitch scheduled for 8:10. Default 19-21

Had a tough week as they went 1-5 playing the Astros & Yankees, though the one win was against Sonny Gray. Probably should have won the Saturday game too as they got screwed on replay review. The East coast trip continues with 3 games in Boston Monday-Wednesday and than 4 in Toronto over the weekend beginning on Thursday.

Jed Lowrie's having a great season. Hopefully that doesn't mean he will be traded by July.

If the A's are not in contention, that would be the smart thing to do. Lowrie is having a career year, but he is doing it at the age of 34, making it improbable that such a season will be repeated. He will be a free agent anyway at the end of the year, so trading him while his value is at a peak makes sense. It will be a choice of having the final two months of Lowrie's 2018 season, or getting some prospects that will be of use after Lowrie is gone.

If the A's have a legitimate shot at a wild card at the trade deadline, then they will probably hang on to Lowrie since he will have been one of the major reasons they are in contention. Lowrie is a bargain for the A's at his current 6 million, but to hang onto him, or lose him while getting a compensation pick, will require the A's having to make a qualifying offer which is going to be around 18 million or so. The A's will not be able to afford to pay a 35 year old infielder 18 million, so they can't even risk making the qualifying offer. Only if Lowrie is in love with the Bay Area and willing to take a big pay cut to stay in Oakland, will he be with the team in 2019.

Default 25-22

The road trip started bad, but they ended up 3-3 against the top 2 in the AL East winning 2 of 3 in Boston (breaking ties in the late innings in both games they won) and than swept 4 games in Toronto against the sleeping Jays, to finish a very respectable 7-3. A lot of teams would be happy to take 5-5 or hell even 4-6 through the Bronx, Boston & Toronto and the A's got 7 of 10, job very well done, now they have to sustain it through this nice stretch of home games they have upcoming as 20 of their next 25 games are at the Coliseum beginning Tuesday night against the Mariners. And I agree with Grandstander regarding Lowrie, I keep him if they are within striking distance and I'll make 2 notes for "within striking distance."
Note A) tied/leading/within 3 games of the lead (even if they trail multiple teams)
Note B) within 4 or 5 games but they are the next closest (meaning they only have to jump the 2nd wildcard team). If they are more than 5 out, even if they are the next closest team, you have to at least listen to offers, which they should anyways, for the reason Grandstander just mentioned in their last post.

Following the travel day flying back to the West coast, the A's will host the Mariners & the D'Backs for 3 games apiece each series.

Lost 2 of 3 to the Mariners but all 3 games were 1 run games, got outscored by the D'Backs but managed to win the series as they won a 3 run game and a 1 run game while the D'Backs win was a 6 run blowout, and lost a 13 inning game 1-0 to the Rays on Monday as Jonny Venters coming off 3 tommy john surgeries records his first save since the 2011 season. They have 3 remaining games against the Rays and than go to KC for the weekend.

Default 34-32

Lost 2 of the final 3 games to the Rays winning the finale last Thursday afternoon to avoid getting swept, won 2 of 3 in KC, but then followed with a 2 game sweep in Arlington against the Rangers before rebounding to win 3 out of 4 this past weekend against KC. Off day Monday before Houston visits for 3 games and than the Angels come in for 3 games to conclude the weekend.
