AAA player Tito Polo intentionally spiked the first baseman. The league suspended him definitely. The Mariners released him. Good.


Maybe some discipline in the minors will prevent future Machados.

If Polo had been a better prospect, he would not have been released. This won't prevent future Machados, merely prevent future Polos. The amount of crappy behavior a player is permitted to get away with is directly related to how good or bad that player is on the field.
