It's utterly ridiculous. In my opinion, of course.

The Cleveland Indians are my favorite team. I will forever remember the joy the 90's brought me, my friends, my family, the city of Cleveland, and Indians fans everywhere. However, if they change the name I will forever be done with a baseball team in Cleveland. For me, it will mean the Cleveland Indians went away and are never coming back. The new team name would be like a whole new team for me. I won't support the "Spiders" or whatever the Hell name they come up with. I'm a Cleveland Indians fan, not a Spiders fan or whatever.

This would be the last straw for me on the MLB, personally. The sport already kind of sucks with how it's set up. It works against small market teams as it is. But yeah, change the Indians name and I'm done.

As a longtime fan I'd hate to see the name change, it isn't meant to be an offensive name at all.

I liked Chief Wahoo too, and have a large framed picture of him on my man cave wall. It wasn't a negative mascot in any way, it was a source of pride to identify with him.

There's nothing wrong with the chief Wahoos - they're cartoons that aren't meant to be offensive. The one of the big-lipped negro is meant to be offensive. Big difference.

Cartoon images of white people don't trigger me.

Nothing wrong with the first link at all, which is the Chief Wahoo logo that has been around for decades. Your attempt to expand the linkage to the racist image(s) is something where we disagree.

What about just calling them by their nickname? The Cleveland Tribe? Yes, "the Tribe" has connections with the Amerindians but also with everyone o every continent and country of this planet. UK, South America, Africa, Asia, etc all have tribes.

I've seen that suggestion. I'd be okay with it. There has even been some examples where a feather would be used as an alternate logo. However, based on all of this backlash and stuff, I feel like they might just decide to say screw it, go with some lame name like "Spiders" where literally no one can cry about it being offensive.

What a mess.
