How about the Cleveland Native Americans. I don't know why anybody would take offense. It comes from a place of honor and respect, such as Dallas Cowboys, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Boston Celtics, New York Yankees among many others.

What a mess.
The Cleveland Tribe would be much better than Spiders and less offensive than Indians. Tribe would join names like Warrior, Chiefs, Braves, and maybe Blackhawks (not a slur to a group of people like Redskin).

If that doesn't work, at least get a name that is tied in with Cleveland but allow them to keep the team colors and C logo. I'm a Braves supporter and we're keeping our name and logo but may have to scrap the FSU chant (the team's working with native groups and may come with a more authentic hype-rally chant and theme).

Well, if you want to keep the "C" and the tie in with Cleveland, as long as Dolan is the owner, we can just temporarily call them the Cheapskates.

Default Cleveland’s Baseball Team Will Drop Its Indians Team Name

Quote:
Following years of protests from fans and Native American groups, the Cleveland Indians have decided to change their team name, moving away from a moniker that has long been criticized as racist, three people familiar with the decision said Sunday.

The move follows a decision by the Washington Football Team of the N.F.L. in July to stop using a name long considered a racial slur, and is part of a larger national conversation about race that magnified this year amid protests of systemic racism and police violence.

Cleveland could announce its plans as soon as this week, according to the three people, who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly on the matter.

Nice marketing spin to make it sound like its because of the fans. I have a hunch most fans rather liked the Indians name.

And yet, it feels momentous. After 105 years, it’s long overdue, but it never felt like it would happen, no matter how simple it seemed. Washington dropping its slur of a nickname certainly made clear what should happen across the board. There will be blowback as there always is, mostly from overweight white men.

Cleveland baseball team finally agrees to change racist name

Braves & Chiefs should be next.

The Deadspin article is tripe. The "overweight white men" line sounds as if it flowed from the keys of an angry millennial wearing tight pants. He the promotes the name Cleveland Rocks. Pure garbage as usual from Deadspin.

The Rockers would be ok, but sounds more like an MLS name. What about the Cleveland Eries?

So much cu(kery in America.

The sad thing about this is a small minority of Natives are offended with names like "Indians". The majority of Natives couldn't care less, or outright are fans of teams like the "Chiefs" and "Blackhawks".
