It's interesting, and could work actually. However, I wonder if there would be any hoops to jump through with the WNBA since that was the name of the Cleveland team. And some fans I've spoken to are reminded of the WNBA team with the name and don't feel strong on it. But, I kind of like it, and it makes sense with the Cleveland theme.

Eh I don't know. Not saying he doesn't mean it, but him and his dad have a lot of history with the Cleveland Indians, well before he became manager. I'm sure he's not exactly the happiest it's going to be changed, especially during his tenure.

I have wondered about the appropriation of culture, and the mocking of it, by this fan base, and how the Seminole Tribe can possibly be OK with it. First, a white guy in face paint in full tribal gear rides a horse onto the field and throws down a flaming spear. Then, there is the incessant war chant, with the fans mimicking swinging a tomahawk, accompanied by a faux-Indian chant. The latter has also unfortunately found its way to the Kansas City Chiefs and the Atlanta Braves.

Because they got paid a bunch of money. Suddenly, they weren't as offended.

God, I hate that war chant. Now THAT'S offensive.

I like the name, THE CLEVELAND INDIGINOUS PEOPLE.

There, we're all politically correct. Now let's go back to our latte's and fixing lunch from the products we just bought at the natural foods store that we picked it up in our Prius.

They're not mocking them, they're honoring them. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

It's Guardians

Rumor has it the owner wanted to reuse as many of the existing letters to save money - LOL

Somewhere someone is using CGI to mock up a team photo with as many players in old Ford Galaxy with a caption "Guardians of the Galaxy"

A nod to the guardians at the end of the Hope Memorial Bridge.

I always thought those "guardians" on the bridge were very cool.

Not crazy that the team was forced to be "PC", but the new name is not bad. Better than the "Spiders" I suppose.

Sounds generic, like an Arena Football team.
