What does repeatedly shouting 'three' mean? (golf, ball, game, college)

Yesterday I was walking my dog past where a college baseball game was being played. The ball was hit and someone started screaming "three" repeatedly. The outfielder tripped and the guy changed to shouting "four".
What does that mean?

I'm not sure about the three part...could he have been saying tree, or tea?

My friends who I golf with frequently shout FOUR! after I hit a bad shot, as a sign of encouagement I suppose.

They're yelling at a fielder with the ball to throw to 3rd base as that's where the play is. After the outfielder tripped, the runner already had gained 3rd base and was looking at scoring. Thus, the yell to the outfielder was to throw it home, which is the 4th base.
