Furthermore, Larry Doby (Indians and White Sox) was the first black player in American League.
He was no Jackie Robinson....still no credit, nothing.

Mays will be known for his famous back handed catch in center field!

Doby made the Hall of Fame in 1998.

I'd say Mays' catch was an over the shoulder catch.

Mike Wilbon and Tony Kornheiser of Pardon The Interruption noted today being Willie Mays 91st birthday.

Wilbon made a good point on comparisons to Mantle and Mays. He said Mays had the edge.

If anybody had any doubts on that, Mickey clarified that same opinion a few decades ago. At several different MLB functions Mickey stated--"There was always this talk about who was the best center fielder in New York back when we played. For the record, Duke, (Duke Snider-who was sitting next to Mantle and Mays) I'm happy to be tied with Duke for second place."

Years ago I was playing golf in NY with family and was asked to pause our game to let Willie Mays and company through and of course we did!
