AKA, Pitcher cheating.

Spider Tack and anything else.

When will it be enforced?

MLB will be stepping in pretty soon. Can not say before or after All-Star break. Listening to Gerrit Cole when questioned about the use of spider-tac was pretty humorous, the way he talked around it but never gave a direct answer.

It was interesting watching the Yankees and Twins tonight. You had the accuser (Donaldson) going up against the perpetrator (Cole.) Donaldson, who is 1 for his last 13, went 0-5 tonight and struck out twice. There was definitely a story line going into the game. If your going to call someone out, and then face them, at least get a hit. He talked the talked but couldn’t walk the walk.

That being said, my opinion on this is if you’re going to have pitchers use Spider Tack, then batters should use corked bats.

Are corked bats still banned? How would a pitcher feel if they faced someone who used a corked bag? Vice versa, how do batters feel about pitchers using cheat grips?

Yeah, I saw that.

He could've just said I can't / won't discuss this topic now.

We need to also pay attention to Trevor Bauer. MLB is cracking down on a few of the balls he used in a game earlier this year. This one cannot be swept under the rug. And I know that there are other pitchers out there, too, with similar issues.

Bauer now knows they are on to him. His spin rate has decreased as of late. Same with Aroldis Chapman.

Looks like MLB is finally going to do something about it, as reported by ESPN.

Excerpt:

Major League Baseball is expected to announce Tuesday that it will suspend players caught with any foreign substance for 10 days with pay to help curtail the widespread use of grip enhancers by pitchers around the league, sources familiar with the plans told ESPN.

The league is expected to distribute a memo to teams -- which have been briefed on the broad strokes of the policy change -- that outlines its plans to penalize all players caught by umpires with any foreign substance on their person, from the widely used sunscreen-and-rosin combination to Spider Tack, an industrial glue that has become a favorite among pitchers who want to generate more spin on the ball.

The liberal interpretation of Rules 3.01 and 6.02(c), which ban the use of foreign substances, would discipline all substances the same. While there is a "broad consensus among players that Spider Tack is over the line," a high-ranking person on the players' side told ESPN on Monday, the full ban of all grip agents could rankle players. A longtime umpire told ESPN the hard line is vital as he and his brethren attempt an on-the-fly enforcement of a rule that for years has been ignored.

Here's today's announcement from MLB on the issue of sticky stuff.

Excerpt:

"Under the new guidelines, any pitcher who possesses or applies foreign substances in violation of the rules will be ejected from the game and automatically suspended in accordance with the rules and past precedent. Suspensions under Rule 3.01 are 10 games. Starting pitchers will have more than one mandatory check per game, and relievers must be checked at the end of the inning when they entered the game or when they are taken out of the game, whichever comes first. Typically, the inspections will take place between innings or during pitching changes to give the umpires ample time to perform a thorough check without delaying the game."

Tyler Glasnow discusses his injury b/c he went cold turkey off Rosin-Sunscreen and Rich Eisen give his opinion.

In mid-season causing problems for pitchers in delivery.

Off-season safer to add the new rule, so they say.

Will this new MLB substance rule stick?

*Excluding Spider Tack.
